Cassie Bernall, 17.. Her last words were “Yes, I do believe in God.” She became a born again Christian two years ago. She was active in Bible study groups and youth programs at church. She talked of medical school upon graduation and she loved poetry and taking nature photographs.
Steven Curnow, 14.. A freshman, who dreamed of joining the Navy and piloting an F-16 fighter. An excellent soccer player; he began the sport when he was 5 years old. Recently he learned to referee the sport to earn spending money.
Corey Depooter, 17.. Corey loved to golf, hunt and fish. He was a former wrestler. Recently Corey took a maintenance job at a golf club to save up for a fishing boat with a friend. Corey was a good student. He was a strong 6-foot athletic who valued America and her traditions.
Kelly Fleming, 16... A newcomer to Colorado, she moved recently with her family from Phoenix. Described by her mother as “an angel on Earth,” Kelly was an aspiring writer and songwriter, occasionally entering her writing in contests. A friend describes her as a person who “cared about other people.” She was writing her life story on her home computer and had only reached the age of 5 on April 20th.
Matthew Ketcher, 16.. A straight "A" well liked student; Matt was a 210 lb Sopohmore who hoped to start on the schools football team this fall. Described by a fellow student as "a really sweet guy, kind of shy." Another fellow student mentioned that he "was consistently happy." Matt worked part time at a local pizza parlor.
Daniel Mauser, 15..A young man unafraid of a challenge, Daniel earned straight "A's" in academics, he pushed himself to compete in cross-country and debate. A shy young man, yet the first to come to someone's aid when asked. He had recently returned from a trip to France with the French Club. Daniel was an avid skier and loved to camp.
Daniel Rohrbough, 15...Described by others as unselfish with a very caring heart, this hard-working young sophomore was a genius with stereo and home theater systems. He worked after school in his fathers home and car stereo business and each summer help his grandfather work his 700+ acre farm in Kansas. A shy, quiet young man, with a terrific sense of humor.
William "Dave" Sanders, 47...For more than 24 years, a computer and business teacher. Sanders was also a basketball and solftball coach who took the individuality of each of his players to be more important than his win/loss record. Sanders was one of the first to see the danger April 20th, and he rushed into the cafiteria to warn the students. His warning and disregard for his own safety saved countless lives that may have been lost. Later he put himself in the line of fire to usher students to safety. Dave Sanders, a true hero.
Rachel Scott, 17.... Active in the Celebration Christian Fellowship Church, Rachel was described by a friend as “the nicest person I ever met…a very big Christian. She was friendly to everyone.” Her many accomplishments include her as a public speaker, an actress, a musician, a budding playwright, a producer of non-violent videos, poet and photographer. She talked of becoming a youth minister in the future.
Isaiah Shoels, 18.... Isaiah overcame childhood health problems which included heart surgery two times. A small, but strong youth, Isaiah wrestled and played football as well as participating in weight lifting. He had hoped to follow in his fathers footsteps as a music executive after college. Isaiah was the victim of racial prejudice and the fact that he was an athlete.
John Tomlin, 16..... John was a member of the youth group at Riverside Baptist Church and attended Foothills Bible Church. He and his beloved beat-up Chevy pickup truck were familiar fixtures amongst his friends. He enjoyed driving “off-road” and weightlifting. He and his family went to Juarez, Mexico last year where he helped build a house for the poor. He worked part time after school in a gardening center and his plans were to enlist in the Army in two years.
Lauren Townsend, 18... Interested in everything, active in as much, Lauren was the captain of the girl’s volleyball team at Columbine, where her mother coached. She was a member of the National Honor Society and recently received the award for Education Excellence from President Clinton. She was a candidate for valedictorian and was interested in animals and planned on a major in biology.
