William and Mary had the following known children:

(02) Isaac Rutledge, born 23 April 1779 in Surry County North Carolina, died 1836 in Lincoln County Tennessee. Married Ruth Steelman about 1809 in Surry County NC.

 


2nd generation

(02) John Rutledge, born c1768 in Virginia, died 22 November 1833 in Lincoln County Tennessee. He married Catherine Steelman about 1800 in Surry County North Carolina. Catherine was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth____Steelman.

John and Catherine had the following known children:

(03) William Dean Rutledge, born 17 January 1806.

(03) Nathan Rutledge, born c1809 in North Carolina, died c1865 in Wood County Texas, married Elizabeth Ann Speer on 24 August 1843 in Fayette County Tennessee. Elizabeth was the daughter of James Speer and Penelope Jacks.

(03) Charles Rutledge, born c1812 in North Carolina, died after 1865 believe in Upshur County Texas. Married Sulthemia (Julthany ?) Wade 10 September 1851 in Lincoln County Tennessee.

(03) Mary Rutledge, born c1814, died c1904 in Williamson County Texas, burial Florence City Cemetery. Married Andrew B, Howell on 28 November 1840 in Shelby County Tennessee. Andrew, is believed to be the son of David Howell of Lincoln County Tennessee, son of Joseph Howell of North Carolina.

(03) Catherine Rutledge, born c1817 in North Carolina, died after 1865 probably in Upshur County Texas. Never married.

(03) Ruth Rutledge, born 20 May 1819 in North Carolina, died 2 May 1861 in Lincoln County Tennessee. Married George Milstead on 18 July 1839 in Lincoln County Tennessee.

(03) Leah Rutledge, Married Gillem Wiles on 4 April 1840 in Shelby County Tennessee.

(03) John Rutledge, born c1824, married Margaret Ann Baxter on 22 January 1840 in Shelby County Tennessee.

3rd generation

(03) William Dean Rutledge, born 17 January 1806 in Rowan or Surry County North Carolina, died between 1870/80. Married Mary Howell about 1826. Mary is believed to be the daughter of *David Howell of Lincoln County Tennessee, believed to be the son of Joseph Howell of North Carolina.

William and Mary had the following known children:

(04) Jane Rutledge, born 17 February 1830, married W.H. Davis on 6 December 1848 in Shelby County Tennessee.

(04) Martha Rutledge, born 3 June 1831 in Tennessee.

(04) George W. Rutledge, born 14 March 1835 in Tennessee, married Eliza Powell about 1855.

(04) Nathan Franklin Rutledge, born 4 April 1837 in Tennessee.

(04) William Dean Rutledge, born 15 April 1839.


4th generation

(04) William Dean Rutledge, born 1839. Lincoln County Tennessee, died 2 March 1908 in Bell County Texas. He married Susan V. Johnson on 1 February 1864 in Richmond County Georgia.
Susan, was the daughter of Jeremiah Johnson and Elizabeth Vick. She was born 29 June 1842 in Richmond County Georgia, died 25 April 1919 in Bell County Texas, burial in North Belton Cemetery.

William enlisted in the Confederate Army in the spring of 1861 in Sulpher Rock, Arkansas. He served in Company E, 7th Arkansas, and mustered out in Augusta, Georgia, 1865.

William and Susan migrated to Texas about 1889, and are on the 1900 census of Williamson County. They had the following known children:

(05) Jane Rutledge, born c1865, Georgia.

(05) Alice V. Rutledge, born 16 September 1867.

(05) Mary Rutledge, born c1872 in Georgia, died 28 May 1930 in Bell County Texas. She married William B. Courtney about 1893 in Texas.

(05) John Rutledge, born 19 April 1875 in Georgia, died 13 Jan. 1922 in Bell County Tx. Never married.

(05) William Absolom Rutledge, born c1877 in Georgia. Never married

(05) Susie A. Rutledge, born 21 July 1879 in Richmond County Georgia, died 4 March 1950 in Bell County Texas. Married Sheridan Scott Holland on 23 December 1906 in Bell County Texas. Sheridan Holland was born 16 September 1877 in Tennessee, died 2 October 1950 in Bell County Texas.

(05) Rosa A. Rutledge, born c1881 in Georgia.

 


5th-7th generation

(05) Alice V. Rutledge, born 16 September 1867 in (Tennessee on census), died 21 May 1907 in Williamson County Texas. She married William M. Banks on 8 October 1887 in Richmond County Georgia.
William, born 4 July 1866 in South Carolina. Parents unknown. (NEED INFORMATION)

William and Alice followed her family to Texas about 1893, and are on the 1900 census of Williamson County. They lived on a farm near the Williamson/Burnet County line not far from the little town of Briggs, in Burnet County.

They had the following children:

(06) Ella M. Banks, born c1889 in Richmond County Georgia, died c1893.

(06) Susie Regina Banks, born 4 August 1891, died 6 September 1967 in Lampasas, Texas. Married Cyrus Waite "Cye" Shelton in 1913. Cyrus Shelton was born 20 August 1878 in Pulaski County Kentucky, was the son of Fielden Shelton and Lucinda Whitis.

(06) Ruth B. Banks, born 10 April 1893 in Texas, died 27 June 1960 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She married George J. Pender on 30 April 1913 in Williamson County Texas. George was born on 14 May 1893, died 13 August 1943. No children.

(06) Lillie Mae Banks, born 12 September 1894 in Texas, probably in Williamson County. She died on 5 September 1916, buried at Prairie View Cemetery in Burnet County. She married Elmer A. "Buster" Harrison on 30 April 1913 in Williamson County.

He married Myrtle Flossie Kirkpatrick on 1 February 1926 in Lampasas County Texas. Myrtle, born 10 January 1899, was the daughter of Laban A. Kirkpatrick and Martha Cornelia Dennis.
