Miracles in the Snow

Through the transient fog of the dark winter night,
peered haunting blue eyes with their soft glowing light.
The powerful stare with its brilliance and intricacy,
brought on a shivering response full of caution and mystery.
They seem to float through the air with great charm,
in an effort to announce that "they meant you no harm."
Yet as subtle as the movements had tried to be,
an eerie feeling of desolation abruptly overtook me.
As I feel to the frozen, unforgiving, forest floor,
I noticed those two eyes had been accompanied by two more!
Soon there were three enchanting pairs upon me,
watching and listening, gliding through the trees,
with one final shiver the dark night became black,
I knew as I slept, that I would not be coming back.
I dreamt of a thousand things that night,
mostly about a past I wanted to fix and make right.
The bright morning sun was the next thing I saw,
which was followed by the touch of a rather large paw!
And after providing a steaming kiss on the nose,
The wolf disappeared, and I arose.
In the snow at my feet, there were paw prints all about,
and the surrounding outlines of the bodies, which helped keep the winter out.
The howl which followed, echoed forever it seemed...
conveying the heartfelt message, "you are important to me."

Wolf Pack

From the Alpha to the Omega, each has their place in the pack
The Alpha: Big,Strong,Commanding, respected by the pack
A true symbol of leadership.
The Omega: quiet, submissive, the lowest ranking member of the pack
Yet, valued highly by the pack as the instigator of play and fun.
The pack eats, sleeps, plays, and hunts as one...
each member to the pack quickly learn their place and join the pack
helping to maintain a close knit family.
The wolf is a true victim of man's insecurity,
Haunted by the evil legends, tales, and fables,
Hunted to the brink of extinction.
But the Spirit of the Wolf cannot be broken,
they have survived man's attempts to destroy them.
Now they struggle to maintain their rightful place in the wilderness.
Maybe if man learns to understand the values of the pack-
Like the lone wolf that cannot survive without the pack
man cannot survive alone without his fellow kind.
Continue to fight for your survival. Wolf pack:
Raise your young,
bring them up in your footsteps
Run Free----Run Wild,
Maybe someday your Howl to unite the pack will be heard Everywhere.

"Earth Prayers"/Grey Wolf

O. Fred Donaldson

We are sending you to that great God.
Tell him that we who invented forgiveness do not forgive;
That we, who speak of trust cannot trust;
That we, who invoke faith would not believe.
I write as though you could read.
But I know you understand.
When you have left the forest and tundras and no longer
leave your sinewy trails within the snows,
Tell him that you were made on a different day.
Your howls of bewilderment will echo with the mountain wind.
And your songs will join those of the whales.
Tell him for me,
"Forgive them Father for they know not what they do."

"When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life so that when you die, the world cries
and you rejoice."
