Symmetric Relay

Basic Structure

The basic structure of Symmetric Relay is based on Precision.

The structure is:

1§ 16+ high card points;

1¨ 11-15 two or three suited unbalanced, the longest suit is a minor;

1© 11-15 five or more hearts;

1ª 11-15 five or more spades;

1NT 12-15 balanced no five card major;

2§ 11-15 six or more clubs, no four or more card major;

2¨ 11-15 six or more diamonds no other four card suit;

Higher bids can be used according to your favourite pre-emptive structure.

Note

In the original version of Symmetric Relay an opening of 2© was used for a hand with five-five in the majors. Because this opening is of relatively low frequency we open these hands with 1ª leaving 2© for a weak two. The cost of this is that our relays over 1ª are one step higher than the standard relays.
