Can you visit the afterlife without dying?

_____A few years ago while on my sabbatical, to the west coast, I had several troubling experiences. These events happened in a number of dreams over three weeks. So vivid and real were the dreams that I still think about them to this day. The man, named bear, in the infirmary looked up at the ceiling while the doctor fiddled with some paperwork on the other side of the room.

_____A jumble of loud voices and banging approached the closed door of the room. Bear looked up and the door burst open. Four men carried shotguns ready to fire. Bear turned to get down, but the men opened fired on their helpless victim. Blood covered bear's body. He looked up painfully and saw the men leaving. With all the strength left in him Bear reached out his hand and spoke: Why did you do this to me? He never got the answer.

_____After this, and many more, I pondered the meaning of the images I saw, but I was quite unqualified to do so. That was just the beginning of the nightmare of life and life after death. Over the next two weeks I continued to have these dreams. However, they abruptly got more and more graphic in its content. Each dream I would die, and it wasn't of natural causes either. I would be murdered in every single one. Now you can imagine after two weeks of this how I felt. Terrified was the word for it.

_____During this time the subject of life and especially death weighed heavily on my mind. It consumed my thoughts. I did not want to sleep or even think about sleeping, but I did anyway. This dream pattern continued to grow worse. For instance, now the dreams would continue after my life was extinguished, and I would be looking over myself.

_____I clearly remember saying: I can't believe I am dead. Yet, there I was there standing over my lifeless body having murdered, and different way each time no less. Waking up after that made me quite depressed and wondering, "What is going on in my head?"

_____I tried everything not to think about it, but without success.Twenty hours later, after staying up as long as possible, I fell asleep, and entered the world of the dead. Following a particular violent death, again I stood above my body. Strange thoughts raced through my head. I wondered why I was here, and what was going on?

_____Finally, I came to terms with death and welcomed what lay ahead. "O.K I am dead." I said, "Let get on with it!" An undetermined time later I appeared in a strange place. The landscape seemed to glow with a warm light. It looked like nothing I had ever seen or even imagined. There were people there and I carefully scanned the area, but I stopped quickly. Something inside me said there was no need to that, because you are safe here.

_____Peace and tranquillity entered my soul and I became content. It seemed like hours that I was there in the light when suddenly darkness appeared. Darkness and an eerie silence penetrated deep into my mind, and it caused me to become extremely disoriented. I remember thinking, "am I alive or dead?" Many minutes passed, and I became angry because I did not want to leave the light. I wanted to stay in the afterlife and never leave.

_____Was it the afterlife? I doubt that I could imagine such a place. This place I visited did not exist on Earth. Though, I do have a colorful imagination it is not capable of producing such real images, feelings, or perceptions. Yet it happened to me.

_____Was it real? People who have near death experiences say they see light or a place filled with light. You don't have to be near death to see the afterlife. I will surely attest to that fact. John M Jones III 10-10-97
