Oh my God... It can't be. Its the guy from the gas station.
"Hi. Um, I don't know if you know who I am, but I'm..."
"Ashley Bird. I'm right, aint I?"
"Yeah, how did you know?"
"Remember the gas station?"
"Yeah.''
"Thats why I gave you that weird look, you just looked so much like your mother. I knew It had to be you, but I didn't say anything because if it wasn't, I didn't want to feel stupid. So why are you here? And wheres your mom?"
I could have started crying right there. Gosh, he was so nice, I didn't want to get him into all this crap.
"My mom, she, she... Can we talk?"
"Yeah sweetheart, come on it." He lead me into the house. It was nice... very modern. He lead me into the kitchen where a lady, I'm presuming his wife, was sitting at the table. She had a confused look on her face when she saw me. All of a sudden it seemed as if something dawned on her and she stood up with a warm smile on her face. It kind of reminded me of mom, and made me even more depressed.
"Oh my gosh... your Laurie's daughter. Come on over here and sit down... Where's your mom?'
The most frequntly asked question. Well, here I go.
"My mom left me." Shock. Pure Shock. "She had to. Her boyfriend beats up on us. She couldn't take it anymore and left." Odd enough I felt comfortable telling these strangers about it.
"She told me to come here. She said I could trust you guys. I didn't know what to do, so here I am."
"Oh you poor girl. Of corse you can stay here, for as long as you like. Has anybody reported him?"
"Mom was going to. She told me to go to a friends house while she called the cops. When I got home... she was gone. She wrote me a note with your address on the back. I told my boyfriend to call in on him. He said he would. He's most likly done it by now. Nobody knows where I am, except mom, and I have no clue where she is."
Diana had tears in her eyes, but I didn't think she was going to cry.
"Come on, I'll show you to the guest bedroom, you can call it your own for now." I followed her upstairs and into a beautiful room.
"I'll have Zac go get your bags, and bring him up to you."
"Zac?" I thought it was only Diana and Walker. Guess they have kids.
"Oh, my son" She laughed lightly... Bingo. "I have 4 sons, and 3 daughters." Wow... 7 kids. She walked out of the room, and I could hear her talking to Zac, he sounded 13, 14. I sat down on the bed.. oh it was so soft. I must have fell asleep, cause when I woke up my bags were all on the floor. I'll have to remember to thank Zac.
I got up, and walked downstairs, but not before checking my hair in the mirror. Yuck, oh well. When I got down stairs, there were two boys sitting at the table, and Walker. They looked up when I walked in, looking totally confused.
"Uh... Hi..."
