Big Lizard Eats Big Apple

The new Godzilla movie breaks new ground for the old
creature. He is almost completely different than the old
Godzilla (both in form and story). They did keep some of
the story in tact. Godzilla is still the result of nuclear testing
in the Pacific. But that is as far as it goes. He attacks New
York instead of Tokyo, and he actually has a reason this
time for attacking a city.

The graphics are excellent. The new Godzilla is more life
like than the old. He looks real, acts real, and he is
designed real. In the movie, they show that he is a
mutation of the Komodo Dragon (one of the largest lizards
in the world today). This lizard walks on all fours and so
does Godzilla, Godzilla even some resembles the creature
he is spawned from. He is quick as well. And he is cold
blooded so heat seeking technology doesn’t work on him.
According to Time magazine they broke all the rules given
to them on Godzilla. But in doing so they created a more
believable creature.

Maybe because this movie was made in America instead of
made in Japan and edited for America, the whole story is
easier to follow. Of course, there are some American
themes in this story. There is a spy angle in this story and
the scientist involved in this story works for the
government, but has a background in anti-nuclear
demonstrations. A romance is nothing new and neither is
the military getting involved. However, the military
involvement is what you expect out of most American
made films (lots of weapons, tanks, helicopters, and jets).
And don’t worry there is lots of destruction both from
Godzilla and the military.

One word of caution. I do not recommend bringing children
to this movie. When I went there were several small
children in the theater. I believe this film to be too violent
for most children. Do not base the violent content of this
film on the old films. Remember we not only have a
tendency to increased violence over the years, but we have
the technology to make more gore. Now the gore in this
film is not as high as some films today, but it is much
higher than the old Godzilla’s where all you see is a man in
a rubber suit crushing a model city.

Remember, "SIZE DOES MATTER!"
