Bursary Award Program

World Islamic Mission in conjunction with the Government of Ontario is please to make available to the Muslim Community the following bursary awards:

A.      Bursary

A number of $1,000 bursaries are available to Ontario Muslim students. They will be given out over two years with $500 awarded each year. To be eligible to receive this bursary, an applicant must:

a.. have graduated from a secondary school in Ontario

b.. be a tenant of Ontario Housing Corporation (LHA or MTHA) and

c.. be planning to attend a post-secondary institution in 2000 and 2001

Bursary awards are chosen strictly on the basis of academic achievement, community contribution or a part-time job after school and extra curricular activities.

Application Procedure

The application form must be completed by the secondary school principal or student services staff and accompanied by the following:

1. A photocopy of the student's official transcript for the academic year ending 1999-2000, or an official transcript showing all mid-term marks and any available final marks for 1999-2000.
   
2. A letter of reference from a religious/community organization such as WIM (Canada)
   
3.  Proof that the student has successfully completed the academic year 1999-2000.
   
4. Proof that the student has been accepted for full-time study in a recognized post-secondary institution.

Please note: Deadline for submitting bursary application is June 30, 2000. Failure to submit complete documentation will result in the applicant being ineligible for the bursary.

B. Short-Term Awards

A number of awards valued at $250 each are available to Muslims who are tenants of Ontario Housing Corporation who are seeking short-term academic upgrading, trade, or skills-based training.

These awards will be in the amount of $250 for each six month period during 2000 and 2001 to a maximum of $1000.00. To be eligible to receive this award, an applicant must:

a.. be a tenant of Ontario Housing Corporation (LHA or MTHA) and

b.. be planning to enrol in short-term academic, trade or skills based training

Application Procedure

Those applying for the first award of $250 must show proof of enrolment. To be eligible for the next $250 award, it will be necessary to provide evidence of student's successful completion of the first program period.

1. If applying for the short-term award, please complete Parts 1,3,4,5 and 6 of the Application form.
   
2. Proof of enrolment in a program must be attached.
   
3. It is not necessary to provide academic records or letters of references when applying for the first $250 award.
   
4. When applying for a second short-term award, it will be necessary for the student to provide evidence of having successfully completed the short-term training from the centre/school/college/trade school attended.
