Dear Parents,                                                                                                    4th. February 2002

As-Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh.

World Islamic Mission is committed to establishing The As-Suffah School, a full-time school for our future generations to promote Islamic values and teachings. The full-time school will have an excellent curriculum in the sciences, mathematics, social studies, English, health and physical education as well as Islamic studies and Arabic language. The curriculum will be based on The Ontario Elementary School Curriculum in conjunction with an Islamic and Arabic curriculum. Competent teachers will be selected to provide quality education.

The school committee is considering using the existing bungalow at the Ninth location in Oakville. Currently, this building is being used as a mosque and evening madressa. To convert this building to a mosque/school some renovations and changes are required in order to comply with safety regulations and building codes. To this end an architect has been employed to start working on the renovation plans. At the moment the school committee is only considering Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs with higher grades to be introduced in subsequent years. However, the final decision will depend on the commitment of parents and students.

The target date for the start of the school is September 2002, Insha Allah. The school committee is currently in the process of filing an application with the Ministry of Education and approval is expected before the target date.

We are presently conducting a survey for potential students for the full-time school. The final decision on the starting date (September 2002 or September 2003) and also what levels to offer will depend upon this survey. Kindly fill out the Full-time School Survey form and return as early as possible. The committee urges every parent to attach great importance to the survey. Kindly be assured that the survey is meant for gathering information only in order to help us establish The As-Suffah full-time school. This information will not be used for any other solicitations.

The evening and weekend schools will continue to operate as normal and the school committee encourages parents to continue using this free community service.
