Wim opens new mosque on 11 acre site in Oakville, Ontario Canada
On Nov
29th 1998 World Islamic Mission (Canada) launched a new Islamic project in the Mississauga
/ Oakville area when it opened Masjid Noor-ul-Haram . present among the ceremony were his
Eminence maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani Siddiqui, founder and patron-in-chief of WIM, Maulana
Qari Ghulam Rasool of Dar-ul-Quran and Shaikh Rashid of AICP. Masjid Noor-ul-Haram which is currently a 3200 sq.ft bungalow will serve as a temporary home for muslim worshippers in the Mississauga / Oakville area. It is the intention of WIM to establish a purpose built mosque and a full time Islamic school (As-Suffah School) as soon as it pays off the $780,000.00 for which the 11 acres property was purchased. This new site was chosen for many reasons. First of all, it is located in a region where the Muslim population is rapidly growing. It is also right off Hwy 403 which means that it is very accessible to Muslims living in the West side of the Greater Toronto Area. So, for Muslims living in Brampton or Central Mississauga it is only 20 mins drive. Likewise for Muslims living to the East like Oakville or Burlington it is only 10 minutes away. |
||
Secondly it is located in an area
which is currently not developed. The closest housing area is 1.5 km away and most of the
surrounding land is vacant. This means that with proper long term planning, a well
designed Muslim community can be diseigned from the ground up. This will include not only
a mosque and schools but also shopping and commercial areas, affordable housing for
Muslims and medical facilities for the aged, etc. As it was mentioned by Maulana Noorani at the opening ceremony, ' We should look at this project as an opportunity to create a model Islamic environment for the twenty-first century'.

Why this newsletter?Since launching of the Islamic Centre project six months ago, many Muslims across
Canada have responded to our appeal on radio and television. Through their kind financial
support WIM was able to raise a deposit of $280,000.00 in three months in order to take
possession of the 11 acre property.
Not only were we encouraged by this confidence demonstrated by you for this project, but we are grateful for giving us the opportunity to work for the cause of Islam. Therefore, to show our appreciation we felt it was a good idea to start a monthly newsletter to keep all of our members, and supporters in touch with the progress of our project and activities of WIM. We hope with hard work and your continued support we will be able to establish an Islamic Centre which you will be proud of and which will serve the needs of future generations, Insha Allah.
