The blue represents the present range of the gray wolf, while the grey represents the former range of the grey wolf. You can see how its range has changed dramatically throughout 100 years. Around the turn of the century wolves were trapped, killed, and poisoned to near extinction. Today they are making a comeback. They have been reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park. If wolves and humans learn to live side by side maybe the wolf can still roam through the U.S. as they once did. After all, you will never forget the haunting melody of a wolf's howl if you hear it once. I have not been that fortunate but hopefully someday I will.
