[reply from test participant]Than if this is the case, I think you ought to say that on the web site. [Webmistress NOTE: We thought the fact it was a satire was pretty much implied, but this is a good suggestion, and as you see, we have placed a disclaimer on the test to that effect.] A number of people on my butch-femme mailing lists think that this is some kind of authoritative quizz and are now doubting their own identity. One women who previously identified as a femme is now callign her self androgenous.
I think that the mis-comnceptions about Butch and Femme are prevalent enough and are harmful. A quizz like yours, while meant in fun, can do more harm then good in perpetuating the myths.
[Webmistress NOTE: But are they really myths? Look at the overwhelming response we've had of people who see the test as "right on the mark." We're writers, observers of human nature. Stereotypes are often based on factual observation, like it or not. And this test is a satire of that observation. Perhaps we need to get a grip and accept that at times we DO pose and primp and act in stereotypical ways and learn to find the humor in our own silliness rather than take ourselfs too dang seriously!]
Butch and Femme are not abotu activities. They are about masculine and feminine energy in female bodied people. It does nto matter if a woman can change the oil in her car, if she is Femme, she is Femme. Dito for a Butch who cooks or sews. We each have our own energy and way of doing particular activities.
And... passivity and aggression are also NOT indicators of Butch or Femme. Certainly ther eare many very masculien BUtches who are pretty passive. And same for Femmes.
So, no, I don't have any Butch or Femme indicator questions because it is such an individualistic thing to be a Butch or a Femme.
Note from Webmistress: Why? Why not? We remind all yall to keep in mind this is an amusement and not a scientific study :)
