GEORGE SHACKELFORD'S DESCENDANTS

In the September number we began a discussion of the ancestry and descendants of George Shackelford, son of Col. Lyne. We shall now continue that discussion in this issue.

Daniel Bates Shackelford, son of Captain James Thomas and Mary Catherine Bates-Shackelford, was born April 4, 1863, and died March 8, 1933. He was married to Callie D. Chenault, daughter of William O. Chenault and Caledonia Miller, November 7, 1888. Her dates not shown. They had three children, as follows:

Callie Miller------------------------(married Thomas E. Baldwin, Jr.)

Elizabeth---------------------------(married Phillip Frear)

Captain James Thomas Shackelford, son of John Jockaday and Malinda Miller-Shackelford, married for his second wife--Mary Clay Keen. But there appears to be some confusion as to her parentage, as our records show that she was a daughter of Francis and Mary Keen, also that she was a daughter of Oliver McDowell Keen and Sally Clay. (A correction here would be greatly appreciated. T.K.J.) She was born June 5, 1847, and the date of her death is not shown. They had eight children, as follows:

William Rhodes--------------------(married Annie Louise Clay)

Clay Keen-------------------------(married Ann Tifton)

Kirk B. Moberly married Mary Keen Shackelford, daughter of Judge William Rhodes Shackelford November 1, 1938.

But we have no record of the children of the last two named marriages, and would appreciate having a list of their children, if any.

Judge William Rhodes Shackelford was a very prominent judge and jurist of Kentucky for many years, and to him goes the credit for the major portion of the record we have of the descendants of George Lyne Shackelford.

John Hockaday Shackelford, Jr., son of Captain James Thomas Shackelford and Mary Clay Keen, was born in Fayette County, Ky., December 2, 1873. Still living when this record was compiled.
