WILL OF EDMOND SHACKELFORD
I, Edmund Shackelford, of the County of Hopkins, and State of Kentucky, being sound in mind, do indite this instrument of writing as my last Will and Testament: to-wit.
I give and bequeath to my son George N. Shackelford, a negro boy named Anthony, and also an half interest in my two year old Jack colt, the same to have and to hold as his own property.
I give and bequeath to my daughter--Mary Ann Shackelford, a negro girl named Ann, the same to have and to hold in her own right.
After the payment of all my just debts, I give and bequeath unto my dear and beloved wife--Susan Shackelford, the whole of the residue of my effects, personal and real estate not otherwise herein disposed of, the same to have and to hold in her own right for the term of her natural life.
But it is my will, that after the death of my wife, that 75 acres of the farm on which I now live, beginning at the northwest corner and running with the line east to the northeastern corner as specified in the deed, thence with the line south, so as to make up the said 75 acres, including the farm and dwellings, shall be run off for my daughter--Mary Ann Shackelford, to whom I give, devise and bequeath the same, to hold in her own right. And it is

futhermore my will is, that upon the demise of my wife, the said Mary Ann Shackelford is to have two mules or two horses, three milk cows and calves, three bedsteads, beds and bedding, and twenty three silver spoons, and the folding leaf dining table and fifteen head of hogs.
Upon the death of my wife the property left to her and not otherwise disposed of in this will shall revert to and be equally divided among all my children, with such exceptions as are hereinafter specified, to-wit: From my daughter--Martha Reed's interest in the said property, is to be deducted $140.00. being the amount I have advanced to her over and above the [portions given to my other children. And from my daughter Harriet Cook's interest is to be deducted $350.00, being the amount I have advanced to her over and above the portions given to my other children.
Out of the aforesaid property, and upon its division, my daughter--Sally Wilkins, shall have the value of a horse, saddle and bridle, worth $125.00, in as much as I have not heretofore given her those articles.
It is my will, that after the death of my mistress, that Osborn shall not be sold among the other property, but shall select his own home among my children, he having been a faithful family servant. It is also my wish that his mistress shall leave him a sufficiency out of what shall be made on the farm in her life time, to support him in his old age, that he may not become a burden upon those with whom he lives.
To my son--Felix Shackelford, I give and bequeath my three year old jennet, to have and to hold in his own right.
This July 26th, one thousand eight hundred and fifty four (July 26, 1854).

Since we are now pushing the Magazine out ahead of time in our efforts to be prepared to make our next tour of research, we are not allowing much time for subscription renewals, additional data, or corrspondence from our subscribers and friends, therefore this month we have little, very little along that line to report.
But we do have subscription renewals form Miss Mary Lee Shackelford, of Jefferson, Texas; and Mrs C. W. Purcell, of Huntington, W. Va. And we are also happy to welcome back Miss Irene Morgan, of Tahlequah, Okla., who was a subscriber, but had let her subscription lapse. She is now back now however, and we hope will remain with us. And please accept our sincere thanks and gratitude.

We have no births to report this month, and fortunately, no deaths. But we do have one wedding to report to you, and one that we feel certain will be of interest to a great many of you.
Miss Anna Lyne Shackelford, talented daughter of Mrs Anna D. Lamkin-Shackelford, of Norfolk, Va. and

the late Judge Oren Lyne Shackelford, was the happy bride of Dr John Alden Vann, son or Dr and Mrs Foy Vann, also of Norfolk, Va., the nuptials taking place at Bruston Parish Church, Williamsburg, Va., May 6, 1949. After a northern honeymoon the happy couple will be at home temporarily at 1211 Langly Road, Norfolk, Virginia.
The bride is a graduate of Arlington Hall Junior College, in Washington. She also studied law under the tutelage of her father, and became a member of the Virginia State Bar Association in 1942.
Dr Vann is a graduate of the Medical College, University of Virginia, class of 1942, and served his internship at the Episcipal Hospital in Philadelphia. He received his Master's Degree in Orthopedic Surgery, at the University of Tennessee.
Sincere congratulations and best wishes to both of you. May you always be as happy as you are now.

INFORMATION WANTED
Edmund Shackelford, whose will is to be found on pages one and two of this issue, was a son of Samuel Shackelford, and whoever his wife was. Some say that she was Mary Murrell, or Mary Blaine, while one record shows her to have been Nancy Blaine. Therefore we will be grateful for any information that will definitely establish the name of the wife of Samuel Shackelford, the mother of the above named Edmund.
Edmund Shackelford was born in Kentucky, probably in Lincoln Co., May 25, 1780. He may have been born in Virginia. He died in Hopkins Co., Ky., Sept. 1, 1854. He married Susanna Thompson, daughter of Nelson Thompson and Sarah Kerr, Sept. 2, 1807, in Lincoln Co., Ky. She was born May 31, 1790, and died in Hopkins Co., Ky., Dec. 21, 1865. They had thirteen children, as follows:

One John Shackelford married Ellen Arnold, and one John E. Shackelford, married Martha Holloman, in Hopkins Co., Ky., November 3, 1859. Query: Was both of these Johns the same man?
We have more or less data of the descendants of Edmund and Susanna Thompson-Shackelford, including almost a complete data of the DeLong family; but we need additional data of all the others to make our record complete. Therefore any help you may be able to render will be greatly appreciated.

Right here we wish to correct an error that appeared in the June 1949 issue of the Magazine. In the last paragraph on page eight we refer you to page two, April 1949 issue, with reference to one Richard Shackelford and his wife--Sarah Rootes. And in the June issue Sarah Rootes is mentioned as the wife of Roger Shackelford, which is an error. She was the wife of Richard, of King and Queen Co., Va.

Now in your July 1949 Magazine, page six, you can see that we are particularly desirous of obtaining additional information of one Joseph Shackelford, or William, or perhaps Joseph William, who married a Miss Jones, given name not known. A list of their children is also shown.
Our informant states that Joseph or William or Joseph William, and his wife lived at Newtown, Frederick Co., Va., that he moved to Newtown about

1765, lived the balance of his life there and died there. But there are at least three things that we need to know in order to establish the ancestry and identity of Joseph William Shackelford.
First: Was there a place called "Newtown" in Frederick Co., Va., at that time? There is a "Newtown" in the present King and Queen County, Va. We would like to know if there was another place by the same name. Knowing this will help us to locate the place of origin of the subject of our sketch.
Knowing the given name of his wife will also help. One Capt Benjamin Shackelford, born in King & Queen Co., but later moved to Culpeper Co., married Martha Elizabeth Jones. Capt Benjamin was a son of John and Anne Lyne-Shackelford, and he had a brother William and a nephew William. The nephew William was a son of Col Lyne and Elizabeth Taliaferro-Shackelford. Query: Was either of these Williams the one we are now looking for, he who married the Miss Jones, and moved from Culpeper Co., to Frederick Co., Va.? Any one able to answer the above questions please won't you help us?
We are glad to pay the first person that sends us authentic proof of the ancestry of Joseph William Shackelford, and his wife Miss Jones, twenty dollars cash.

Dr William Hedgman Dulaney, son of Dr William Dulaney, and Mary Roberts, was born Feb. 7, 1763, probably in Culpepper Co., Va. He died at or near Woodstock, Va., Jan. 7, 1809. He married a second time, his first wife being Frances Jones (Frankey) Shackelford, daughter of Joseph William Shackelford, and his wife--Miss Jones. This marriage was on Sept. 14, 1786, in Culpepper County, Va. They had nine children, as follows:

(3) Fortunatus Fleming-----(b February 10, 1792, d ??

Any additional information of the descendants of Joseph William Shackelford, and/or of William Hedgman Dulaney, will be very greatly appreciated.

William Mason married Sarah Shackelford, December 17, 1792.
John Shackelford married Anne Newman, May 13, 1801.
Henry LcLeod married Parthenia Shackelford, July, 1804
Robert P. Randall married Nancy Shackelford, March 17, 1812. Joseph Shackelford, surety.
Morgan Johnston married Roxey Ann Shackelford, February 17, 1830.
George McLeod married Adelaid Shackelford, May 9, 1833.
Kemble G. Hicks married Amanda F. Shackelford, June 23, 1835.
All of the above marriages in Frederick Co. Va. All of whom may be closely related to Joseph William Shackelford. Therefore information of their descendants will be a valuable contribution to the record.

EARLY SHACKELFORDS IN GLOUCESTER COUNTY, VIRGINIA.
William Darnaby married Diana Shackelford, Oct. 29, 1732. And it is not known just how many children they had, but they are known to have had a daughter Agatha, but the date of her birth is unknown.
William Duvall, Sr. married Agatha Darnaby, daughter of William and Diana Shackelford-Darnaby, and are said to have had several children, but the name of only one of them has been sent to us. That one

was a son of William, Jr. date of birth not shown, but died June 13, 1827. The Darnabys and Duvalls are said to have lived in Spottsylvania Co., Va.
William Duvall, Jr. who died June 13, 1827, was married, but the name of his wife is not shown, but they are known to have had four children, ie-

Catherine---------(married Henry Pendleton)
Lucy--------------(married James Wilson)
The above is all the information we have of the descendants of William Darnaby and Diana Shackelford, but we do have the ancestry of Diana. So we would be happy to exchange what we have, or to purchase additional data of the Darnaby descendants.

Joseph Boswell married Jane Shackelford, October 23, 1731. Jane was a sister to Diana Darnaby.
Roger Shackelford, son of James, born about 1695, name of wife not known, but said to have had several children, but the names of one two, probably three, are known, as follows:

It is not certain that there was a son Roger, but we have one record that shows a son Roger, and others that do not.
Charles Shackelford, son of Roger, baptized June 2, 1719, Abbington Parish, Gloucester Co. Va., married Eleanor Monney, also in Abbington Parish, July 1, 1743. They had the following children:
