DARNABYS, CONTINUED.
We believe that we gave you a record of the Dr Thomas Clifton Coons family in an earlier issue of the magazine, but since all of our records have not yet arrived from Texas we are not sure. Therefore we will begin the record in this number with his family.
Dr Thomas Clifton Coons, son of William Benjamin Coons and his wife Lucy Marshall Ferguson, was born in Fayette County, Ky., December 7, 1848, and died in 1926. He was married to Miss Cora Belle Darnaby, daughter of William Luther Darnaby and his wife Elizabeth True, October 30, 1883. She was born in Fayette County, Ky., July 26, 1858, and died 1919. They had four children, as follows:

James Coons, son of Martin Coons, and his wife Polly White, was born in Fayette County, Ky., July 13, 1826, and died in Fayette County, Ky., July 26, 1897. He married Emeline Darnaby, daughter of John Darnaby, Jr., and his wife Malinda Ellis, September 14, 1859. She was born in Fayette County, Ky., Jan 23, 1823, and died January 8th, 1897.
They had four children, as follows:

John Ellis Darnaby, son of John Darnaby, Jr, and his wife Malinda Ellis, was born March 18, 1827, in Fayette County, Ky. He died July 18, 1878. He was married to Miss Dorcas Cook, parentage not known, July 21, 1859. She was born November 17, 1836, and died December 5, 1917. They had the following children:

Irvin J. Moore, was born 1861. Date of death and parentage not known. He married Katie O. Darnaby, daughter of John Ellis Darnaby and his wife Dorcas Cook, September 1st, 1880. She was born April 27, 1860. They had at least four children, as follows:

Walter P. Glass, dates of birth and death not known, was married to Laura C. Darnaby, daughter of John Ellis Darnaby and his wife Dorcas Cook, Nov 13, 1879. Dates of her birth and death not known. The following children blessed this union:

The fourth child and third daughter of John Darnaby, Jr., was Lucinda Darnaby. She was born in Fayette County, Ky., January 7, 1825, and died February 24, 1917, reaching the ripe old age of 92 years one month and seventeen days. She never married, and was one of the most beloved women in Fayette County. The following eulogy is from the pen of Miss Emma B. Coons, of Lexington, Ky., and we quote: "From the time of her womanhood it can be truthfully said of her that she has been a mother or a guardian of the entire family. When sickness, death or other distress came to any branch of the family the first thing to do was to send for aunt Lou or Lucy, as she was affectionately known. In case of sickness she was first, last and all the time to be found at the bedside; when medicine was to be given it was her part to administer it. When death came there she was ready to rest the dying, when the eyes of death were to be closed the tender touch of her fingers were ready to perform, the last act dictated by loving devotion. When little ones were left by dead parents they found gentle and devoted arms to embrace them and care for them. When deep distress came upon those by whom she was surrounded she was ever ready to pour on the oil of consolation, and we can truthfully say that no one ever had a more united and devoted love and respect for a single member of their family than is now and lways (sic) has been lavishly bestowed upon her." end of quote.
And since she lived such a long rich useful life it behooves each of us, in as much as is humanly possible, to emulate her example.
N. Tinder, was born in Fayette County, Ky., May 4, 1869. So far as is known he is still living. He married Dora A. Darnaby, daughter of John Ellis Darnaby and his wife Dorcas Cook, Sept 19, 1889. She was born in Fayette County, Ky., January 31st, 1872, and is still living as far as is known to us. They had three children, as follows:

Thomas S. Fish, birth date not known, married Sally Darnaby, daughter of John Ellis Darnaby, and his wife Dorcas Cook, March 21, 1907. She was born March 3, 1867, and died April 18, 1947. We have no record of their children, if any. Therefore we need additional information of this family.
George Edward Darnaby, son of John Darnaby, Jr, was born in Fayette County, Ky., Jan 18, 1832. His date of death not known. Married Mary Elizabeth Allen, daughter of Washington Allen, September 30th, 1856. She was born in Jessamine County, Ky., January 15th, 1836. Date of her death not known. They had four children, as follows:

Henry Clay Garrison, was born in Fayette County, Ky., november 29, 1862. Date of death not known. He married Sally Darnaby, daughter of George Edward Darnaby, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Allen, July 11, 1893. She was born November 18, 1861., and died November 1951. They had two children:

We need additional information of the families, if any, of Ida, Louella and John Allen Darnaby.
James Madison Darnaby, son of John Darnaby, Jr, was born in Fayette County, Ky., April 21, 1836, and died March 6, 1865. He was married to Miss Irene Hudson, whose date of birth is not known to us, in 1856. They had but one child, a son J. Hudson Darnaby, born July 25, 1863, and died October 8th, 1863. The mother died soon after the birth of her son. Thus ended this branch of the family.
Nicholas B. Phelps, was born November 25, 1824, in Jessamine County, Ky. He died May 10, 1871. He was married to Mary Ellis Darnaby, daughter of John

Darnaby, Jr, and Malinda Ellis, September 4, 1859. She was born in Fayette County, Ky., June 1838, and died January 22, 1892. They had at least three children, as follows:

Edward Phelps, son of Nicholas B. Phelps, and Mary Ellis Darnaby, was born in Scott County, Ky., Jan 29, 1864, and died July 8, 1949. He was married to Margaret Hawkins, January 22, 1892. She was born January 7, 1866. Date of death not known. They had at least four children, namely:

John Johnson Coons, was born in Fayette County, Ky., March 16, 1832, and died July 24, 1879. He was a son of George W. Coons, and Evaline Johnson. He married Judith Catherine Darnaby, the tenth child and fifth daughter of John Darnaby, Jr, August 1st, 1861. They had six children, and we feel certain that we gave you a record of this family in a previous issue of the magazine.
Carter Dale Moore, son of Robert Moore, and Ann Elizabeth Pratt, another pioneer family of Kentucky, was born September 22, 1838. He died in June 1912. He married Louise Jane Darnaby, the eleventh child and sixth daughter of John Darnaby, Jr, and Malinda Ellis. She was born May 4, 1843, and died August 16, 1912. They had six children, namely:

Since we gave you all the family news that we have at this time, in the January issue, we will have to deviate from that portion this time, and give you a few personal items which we are very happy to do at this time.
This writer has been doing genealogical research for several years, and during that time has corresponded with many people, few of whom we have met in person. But recently we have had the pleasure of meeting one of our favorite cousins--at least we are cousins to the extent that we have a common ancestor. Those of you who have been reading the magazine for any length of time have noticed the name of Mrs Margaret Gray-Blanton mentioned several times. She lives in New York City, and is intensely interested and active in genealogical work. And almost every year makes a tour down into this part of the world. And recently we were gratified to learn that she was coming to Kentucky, then to add to our pleasure we received an invitation, both Mrs Jones and I, to have dinner with her at the Lafayette Hotel, in Lexington, Ky., on Sunday April 26th. She also invited our good friends Mr and Mrs J. R. Johnson, of Lexington. We all accepted and had a wonderful time. Mrs Blanton was as charming and gracious as a hostess as she is as a correspondent. We wish all of you could know Mrs Blanton. So on behalf of the Johnsons and Mrs Jones we say again--Thanks Mrs Blanton, for a wonderful time, and we hope to see you in Kentucky again and soon.
And we could never insert a personal item and not mention Miss Mildred Murphy, of Fontana, California. To her this month go the orchids for such splendid co-operation.
Miss Murphy is descended from Henry Guthrie and his wife Nancy Ann Shackelford. Several months ago we had a letter from Miss Murhpy asking for additional information of the Henry Guthrie descendants. We were fortunate enough to have several records of those descendants, and so we just packed them up and sent them to her, asking in return that she copy all or any part of them, and then add as many

to our collection as she could and return them to us, which she promised to do. And she did even better than that. She used our records, and what she already had and put them into book form, and then presented us with one of the books. And her book is a splendid work, containing 179 pages, well indexed, and a book that any Henry Guthrie descendant should be happy to have. Thanks again Miss Murphy, and congratulations for a lot of work well done.
Orchids also to Mrs R. L. Thacker, of Franklin, W. Va. For several years Mrs Thacker has been a subscriber for our little magazine, and during the time we have had a great deal of correspondence with her, and at one time or another she has supplied us with more or less data. But after the death of her sister she finds among the sister's papers a bundle of records that prior to then she had not known about, so she just sends all of them to us for our perusal and copying. All of which makes us very happy, and is a great help in making the record of that branch of the family far more complete. Thanks again Mrs Thacker.
We were sorry to learn of the near fatal accident to the son and daughter of our friends and fellow genealogist, as well as another distant cousin, Mr and Mrs M. E. McGuinn, of Spartanburg, S. C. It seems that somo (sic) young fellow was in a rush to get some other place, so much so that the car occupied by Kerry and Gail McGuinn happened to be in his way. So into them he crashed. Fortunately however, they escaped with slight injuries, although their car was demolished. So congratulations Kerry and Gail, it is nice to know that you were not injured far more seriously.
The March and April magazines will follow in a few days. But in the mean time please let us urge you to keep us posted as regards the family news. So please do not forget to send us all birth, death and wedding announcements of all members of the clan, and all other interesting news of them.
