Deep Blue SomethingThe band Deep Blue Something has to be successful. For as some parents of a school in Denton*, Texas get to know that English teacher Todd Pipes, next to his job, is a singer and bass player in a rock band they no longer want him to teach their children and go in for his dismissal. At this time in America "Breakfast At Tiffany's" is already a hit and the musical prospect is actually looking quite well. But because the Interscope label has signed on some rap-artists (with filthy texts) the Warner group gets political pressure to separate from Interscope. Deep Blue Something are up in the air for some months: "Breakfast At Tiffany's" is already a radio hit (SWF 3 has been playing the song since October 1995) but neither the single nor the album can be bought. In spring MCA signs on the controversial label and immediately publishes "Breakfast At Tiffany's" in March. And now the nearly prevented story of success continues in Germany as well and makes the single a Top Ten hit. Deep Blue Something have been taking quite a giant tour upon themselves: The foursome around Todd (bass, vocals) and Toby Pipes (guitar, vocals) have done more than 250 stage acts in two years. Furthermore they have appeared in TV shows on "MTV", "VH-1" and at some American "Late Night" shows. The dynamic and modern sound goes down sensationally well in a more traditionally orientated state like Texas. Deep Blue Something's musical style is influenced by British bands such as "The Police", "The Cure" and by "David Bowie". "Music has no boundaries. The kids out there don't care where the music comes from. They just want to like it." drummer John Kirtland explains Deep Blue Something's point of view. |
*a mistake, as can be seen on Audrey's DBS page - she rather knows the truth, one might guess
