Breakfast with Elmi*
by Sebastian Bösel
They're from Texas. No, they're not wearing Cowboy hats, nor Cowboy boots. Nor chewing bubble-gum. No Cowboys. Or are they?
They smoke Marlboro!!! At least Clay, the lead guitarist smokes this brand. Elmi reaches into his breast pocket. "Are you sponsored?",
Elmi asks, the SWF3-New-Pop-sponsor's star sticking at his forehead. Joker. Elmi is in great form and the four boys of Deep Blue
Something are as well. Especially Elmi and Todd, singer and bass player, are getting along. Todd was a teacher in his former life - that
can't be long ago, he is 25** -, English teacher, as Elmi was before he went to SWF3. After three months Todd was fired. Parents of his

Deep Gold Something

Actually Elmi should have met Deep Blue Something in the Festival-lounge at 2 p.m. sharp. But there are some good
reasons to advance the date: Deep Blue Something are getting gold! A golden disc! 250 000 "units" sold, as that is
called in technical jargon. Namely that's what Frank Ströbele of Deep Blue Something-label MCA is good at. In
English: 250 000 fans have so far bought the single-CD "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in Germany. Thanks by the MCA
man to the band - and to SWF3. In Ocotber 95 the SWF3 music editors heard "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and were of
the opinion: that's gonna be a hit! Into the play-list! And then into the charts. Inside the Top 100 for five months
without a break. For this development aid for the Texans SWF3 gets a golden one as well. SWF3-boss Peter
Stockinger receives it proudly, "because it's my first one." A place of honor for it at the SWF3 editorial office is certain.

students' had picked up that he was playing the bass in a rock band during his spare time and now they were afraid the teacher might
spoil their children. Elmi: "At least you made it three months long, I was fired after one day!" Let's go on with funny guess-that-job. What
did drumer John Kirtland do in his former life (thus two years ago). The typical hand movement: hand on the shift lever. John was an
excavator's driver - on a graveyard. He dug graves. "A quiet job!", John says. But too quiet for a drumer who likes the rocky way. Toby
has been a guitarist since he can think, therefore has no former life. He loves his stratocaster. But he has not brought it along into the
Festival-lounge. Next to him stands an acoustic guitar. Clay and Todd also have guitars next to them. Conclude: Deep Blue Something
will play unplugged! A giant applause among the fans in the lounge. Clay gets cracking - "Breakfast at Tiffany's", the fast guitar riff at the
beginning. Too fast for the singer. Todd: "Hey Clay, we're not on a horse race! Once again!" Then the timing is right. Three guitars,
great voice from Todd. Second breakfast with Deep Blue Something at the SWF3 Festival-lounge. The third one is in the evening on
the concert in Rastatt. Then Toby reaches for his stratocaster again and drumer John Kirtland may also join in.
