Trade-off in TCAD
Different concerns arise depending on
- Who develops/uses the tool.
- When it is to be used.
- How it is to be used.
Flexibility vs. complexity
- Maximum user flexibility increases the complexity of the tool.
- The particular user for the specific problem may use only a subset of the available models.
Interactive vs. batch mode
- Interactive capabilities are useful for experienced users.
- But it often involves a lot of repeated work, and it complicates the problem for non-expert users.
Accuracy vs. speed
- Accuracy and speed of a TCAD simulation are highly grid dependent.
- Error associated with the grid must be smaller than the required accuracy.
