Bewitched was one of the highest rated television series in the sixties. It's popularity spanned the globe. It is still seen today all over the world. But each country views it a little bit differently. France watches Bewitched dubbed into their language as do Italy, India, Spain and Mexico. In Brazil, Bewitched is aired in Portuguese (without the laugh track). The Japanese have a choice. Bewitched is broadcast there "bilingually". Which means that on one audio track you can hear Samantha speaking in her native tongue or switch tracks & listen in Japanese. French episodes are commercial free and not all of the episodes have the laugh track that is heard in Japan, or here in the U.S. Israel does not dub Bewitched into their language (Hebrew) istead it is aired in English with subtitles. It's also fun to see each opening cartoon with the title & credits translated into their language. For instance in Italy Bewitched is called "Vita da Strega," in France it's "Ma Sorcière Bien-Aimée", in Spain it's "Embrujada" and in Mexico "Hechizada." In Brazil "A Feiticeira", in Germany it's "Verliebt in Eine Hexe" and in Portugal it's "Casei com uma feiticeira" ("I Married A Witch"). Take a look at video of the French opening by clicking Here (1.5 MB). What is best about most of the countries that air Bewitched is that they are shown in their complete unedited form. Although Japan has recently began to edit. I hope you enjoy this little selection of international Bewitched. Stay tuned for more bytes from other countries coming soon!
