STORY BEHIND THE POEM “ON SPECHT”

.

George Specht and his partner Adam Macgregor were on patrol recently.  A radio broadcast was made about a robbery/pursesnatching of a little old lady, which had occurred in another patrol district.  The description and the plate number of the suspect vehicle were broadcast, and numerous units from our District began looking for the vehicle.

.

George and Adam found it.  They also found two suspects in the car.  As soon as they pulled up, one of the suspects bailed out of the car.  George tried to block his exit with the police car, but missed.  Adam bailed out of the car and began a foot pursuit, while George arrested the other suspect.

.

Adam, and the guy he was chasing began to run around a house, and around, and around…George said they went by at least four times.  The suspect run out into the middle of 1st Ave which is a very busy major thoroughfare and the two were dodging in and out of traffic.  Cover was coming but still aways off, so George went to help his partner.  He grabbed his suspect and handcuffed him to the passenger side door post of the stolen car.

.

Adam eventually broadcast on the radio that he had lost the suspect, and containment was set up so that the dog could start tracking when he arrived.  Before that happened though, the suspect, thinking Adam had left, popped out of the bushes where he had been hiding.  Adam tackled him, and arrested him there.

.

George walked back to the stolen car and the other suspect and much to his dismay, suspect and car were gone.  After another search, the car was again located, with the suspect still securely handcuffed to the door post.  Apparently he got back into the car, stretch across, got it started and managed to drive away again after George left him.

.

When asked how he managed it, he just said “I have long legs”.
