Chloe, was a 9.5yr female Blue/Cream Tortie Burmese cat.

Chloe with her brilliant green eyes (Chloe means "green in springtime")

She was a very affectionate cat (especially to those that were allergic to her or hated cats).  She demanded attention at about 4am most mornings.  I generally brushed her off or let her under the covers to shut her up, but any house/pet sitters that I had found themselves in for a very rude awakening, literally.  Her cutest habit was greeting me after work in the summer.  She had a flap screen to get out on the deck (4 story apartment) - she spent the afternoon snoozing in the sun, but when she heard the key she'd come running while whaling.  It sounded like a baby crying on a bumpy road - too funny.  Her nickname was Precious.

Chloe was not in the least bit impressed when Meika moved in, but amazingly adjusted to the disruption in her life.  The one thing that made it bareable for her was the 5 ft high scratching post she got as compensation (new suntanning spot).  She adjusted, but knew to run and hide whenever Meika got in a playful mood, unless Chloe wanted to end up as the toy of choice.

She had many comfy places to sleep and alternated to different spots every few weeks.  When she was cuddly, she'd purr up against the dog, which freaked the dog out since Chloe's normal reaction to the dog's presence was a swat to the nose.  Chloe hated to be picked up for any reason, but loved to sit on my lap or stretch across my legs when I was lying on the couch.  She loved to walk across the keyboard anytime I was on the computer (as does Rascal now).  She loved to follow me around the house, but would get very annoyed when the dog did the same and got in her space (usually followed by a whiny meow and a swat to the nose for the dog).

Chloe had Kidney failure in July '98 and almost didn't make it.  It took her about six months to recover fully (although the damage was permanent and shortened her lifespan considerably).  Just recently (June '00) she took another turn for the worse so she was back on IV solution daily to get her hydrated again.  It's like having a sick child (I would imagine).  Her normal weight was about 6lbs and she went down to only 4lbs at the most.  June 7th was a sad day for me as I had to take her to be put to sleep.  I really really didn't want to do it, but she was in too much pain and I didn't want her suffer anymore.  What a horrible feeling (I'm sure it's was worse for her than me).  I  miss her, but it helps to have Rascal to fill the void she left.  Here are the last pictures I took of her - Feb 2000, while staying at a friend's during our wait for possession of the new place.

She was a fickle little thing, but dainty, very cute, talkative and demanded attention.  She was very coordinated (never knocked anything over when walking in tight places - unlike Rascal who knocks over whatever is in his way, actually pushes things over just to lie comfortably).  Her coolest move was when my brother was tormenting her by blowing in her face from above.  He kept blowing and blowing ( I warned him) and suddenly she leaped in the air, smacked him upside the head (both temples) before he could move.  Wish I'd had a picture of that one!!!  He was lucky she didn't use her claws.  He wasn't so lucky then next encounter......   He was on the phone, ignoring her (not a good idea), turned his back to her, then she decided he wasn't going to ignore her and climbed up his back.  Not being a cat person, he straightened up (cat person would bend over to avoid the claws on the climb up).... well the claws just went in deeper & she continued up.  Needless to say he did not forgive her for that one!!
