Some Gardens of Arizona
The top two photos are of the Desert Botanical Garden of Phoenix. This garden is run by volunteers and is supported by entrance fees. The many Docents of the park are very knowledgeable of the desert plants and trees that fill the park. There is a charming out door patio lunch area, a Gift Shop, Plant Shop and a Research Library. The many brick paths through the park take the visitor to a Desert House, a Succulent House and the Cactus House.....the plants are well marked and the area is underplanted with wild flowers adding a great deal of color along with the giant blooms of Aloe and Cacti. Beautiful desert scenery, huge cacti, trees and the wild life of Arizona are part of the joy of this very interesting and educational park. This park should be a "must-see" for anyone visiting Phoenix. The bottom photo is a Garden for the Blind. All the planting beds are raised with the markers in braille. This garden was donated to the city of Phoenix by Elsie McCarthy but was created in Glendale Arizona, a community just west of and adjoining the city. Elsie was my brother-in-laws aunt. The plants consist mostly of pleasant things to touch or smell with concrete paths connecting the planting beds. This garden is a thoughtful and interesting concept for those who must enjoy the beauty of nature through senses other than vision.
