Beautiful Mountain Parks

The two top photos are of the South Mountain Park and Reserve owned by the city of Phoenix. This nearly 17,000 acre park is a maze of trails and camp sites and, at the lookout at the peak, gives one a magnificant view of the entire "Valley of the Sun". The top photo is the view of the city of Phoenix from the top of South Mountain, the lighter area in the center/right is downtown Phoenix. There is a compass like structure at the summit that gives points of interest that you are able to see on a clear day and how many miles away they are..... it's a fascinating view. The second photo is of a stone stucture from which you get a breathtaking panorama of the valley and city below, many of the buildings in the park are constructed of stone in that same manner. The bottom photo is from one of our picnics at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. Lake Pleasant was created in 1993 by the construction of Waddell Dam. The lake covers 10,000 acres and is 1702 ft. deep at it's peak in mid-spring and lowers by June, the water is used for irrigation of the agricultural fields in the west valley and is provided by snow run-off and the Colorado River. The area has many wonderful picnic areas and camp sites and, because of the length of the lake, a favorite place for sail boaters.
