To begin with let's explain Annie. The show that Annie Warbucks is the sequal to. It was a hit show. It opened with an ambitous young orphan, Annie, running away from the orphanage to find her REAL parents. Miss Hannigan, the lady who ran the orphanage would always catch her. Annie had several friends... the orphans.
It is 1933 Annie has just been adopted. Her name is now Annie Warbucks!!!! But just as soon as Annie thinks her troubles are gone for good trouble comes back! Comisioner Harriet Doyle from the Department of Child Welfare. (pictured Below...Yes that is Sally Struthers)
Apparently Annie's adoption is illegal. Annie must have a mother to be legally adopted!!!! Warbucks thinks he is too powerful for her making Doyle angrier. Warbucks calls Simon Whitehead his attorney to deal with matters. Doyle and Whitehead agree that if Oliver can find a wife within the next month he could keep Annie! Unfortunately he must have someone with charcahter that Doyle chooses and not some blond floozy like Warbuck's trusted assistant Grace Ferrell.
Annie hates this with a purple passion so Warbucks tries his best to convince Annie Changes are all part of life!!! Annie is still afraid Warbucks will love his wife more than her.
It is all getting a bit too stressing for Annie. She needs to0 talk to someone her own size...the Orphans from the Orphanage. Hmm...the orphans they have changed. Only four orphans and a copuple without names remain. We also get one new one: Peaches. Peaches is an african-American story of how Peaches cam into the orphanage: Mrs. Hannigan was racist and kept Peaches locked up, but the new orphange owner let her out. Only Pepper, Tessie, and Molly stay. (and Peaches)
From Left Peaches, No name, Molly, No name, Pepper, Tessie
The orphans scare Annie even more saying she had better watch out for "the other woman" cause she might get her man!!!!
The next day Annie overheard Grace talking to a member of FDR's cabinet. Someone is trying to get her to work for FDR and leave Warbucks!!! Annie is horrified!!! Now Doyle has been finding woman for a mother. Neither Warbucks nor Annie like any of these woman. Ms. Shiela Kelley, Doyle's assistant, comes over every morning to bring Mrs. Doyle her files etc. Mrs. Doyle makes her walk home in the pouring rain. Warbucks takes pity on her and gives her taxi fare.
Annie, being the persuasive doll she is, convinces Drake, Mrs. pugh (the only remaining servants) to subtly hinto to Daddy warbucks to marry Grace. Drake doesn't fall for it one bit. He sees through the not-so-clever set-up. Annie tells Warbucks that Grace loves him, but he thinks she needs a younger man.
Well Warbucks goes to Doyle's office to see who else he was to date. The comisioner isn't there, only her assistant Shiela Kelley. The two start talking and discover they are both from Hell's Kitchen NY. Ms. Kelley tells of her God-forsaken life and how she had to "go on"
Ms. Kelley isn't Ms. Kelley at all, but really the Comisioner's daughter!!! her name is Florence Doyle. The two are in a scheme to kill warbucks (and the brat) and get all of his money. They plan to do it right also. Not like "Shiela's" last jobe which placed her in jail for 8 years. Near the end of this scene the phone rings the elder Mrs. Doyle ambles over to pick up the phone. The audience doesn't quite know who it is all we hear is Mrs. Doyle say "it worked Perfectly!"
Things are getting worse for Warbucks....he is a terrible financial crisis!!! He just took out a large loan from the bank of London and is getting ready to fly out there to check things out. Simon Whitehead admidst the confusion asks Warbucks to sign a marriage certificate. Warbucks jokingly makes the remark that a wife and child are the last things he needs at the moment. Annie takes this deep to heart and runs away...Out West...
ACT II
Well Annie didn't quite exactly make it out West. Instead she is in Tennesee.
She has been riding on freight trains and staying in hobo camps. Now she has met the a nice family to stay with...the Patersons: with Alvin, his wife Ella, and their daughter C.G. Ella convinces Annie that Love isn't anything physical and that she should return home.
Warbucks and President FDR have been setting up a world-wide search for Annie to no avail until the Pattersons bring her back. The pattersons recieve $100,000 in rewards!!! Annie informs the President of something that has been troubling Alvin Paterson. The Tennesee river has been drying up and then flooding his crops. He is making very little money! Many of the politicians say for FDR to wait. But Annie convinces them that Somebod's gotta do something before it's too late!!!
Florence Doyle is having doubts about their plan, but the Comisioner soothes her and says just "Leave it to the Girls" and that they can do anything because they are female! Unluckily for them Grace walks in to see them embrace then hear Harriet Doyle say "Oh Florence, Florence!" Grace get suspicious...
But before they go blaming things they celebrate Annie's homecoming on the Staten Ferry Island. everyone is Dressed up and having a jolly-good time! Florence aka Shiela wraps up her plan by singing Warbuck's his favorite lullaby. He finally proposes!
A Lovesick Grace now realizes she can never have the charming and debonair Oliver Warbucks.
Grace isn't the only unhappy one. At the Wedding Annie doesn't nothing but Droop and act gloomy Warbucks tries his best to convince her it is for the best, but actually warbucks isn't real sure he's doing the right thing either.
In the middle of the wedding ceremony Drake barges in with important news. Oliver's loan from the bank has fallen through!!!! Mr. Warbucks is now Mr. No Bucks!!! Hehehe...
Florence is rather peeved as is the Comisioner. Grace Ferell comes in and reveals the Doyle's plan! Actually Grace made up the lie about his loan falling through! It was all a ploy to trick Florence and see if she truly loved him. Florence and Harriet refuse to take the fall alone though!!! They reveal Simon Whitehead, Warbuck's unfaithful attorney, as the mastermind behind the plan! Warbucks and Annie attack Whitehead after Warbucks is called Baldie.
Everything turns out fine!!! Warbucks adopts the orphans bringing the total to 5 children!!!
