Who We Are
The
54th Massachusetts Glory Brigade was founded in 1992.It is
a non-profit, tax-exempt,
corporation. The corporation is run by a
Board of Directors which
includes six officers. The Board of
Directors and officers
are elected by the general membership
annually.
Company
A 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry/Colored
Ladies Christian Relief
Association is a permanent standing
committee of members
who carry out the educational programs
of the corporation.
Company
A strives to present the most
accurate portrayal possible
of the most famous regiment of the
Civil War. The
Colored ladies present the “hidden half” of the story
of the 54th, the contributions
of African American women in the
Civil War. Through public
programs, Company A/Colored Ladies
seek to expand citizens’
awareness of the role of African
Americans in the Civil
War period. Recognizing the relevance of
the 54th’s issues of
justice and equality to today’s society,
Company A/Colored Ladies
work to promote civic responsibility
among all young people
in Boston and the Commonwealth.
What We Do
The
54th Massachusetts Glory Brigade presents three types of
programs for the public:

Lecture
presentations for schools, museums, libraries, and
historic sites.

Parades
and color guards for cities, towns, and veterans’
groups
-
Living
history encampments. Currently, the Glory Brigade
does about twenty four
programs a year. In addition,
members do research
about the 54th and work closely with
other organizations
to plan activities related to our mission.
