Chalky, Shirt, Tigger and Enigma…
…The Third Degree
Doctor
Who was definitely experiencing a renaissance.
To experience the joys of Rose,
the first episode of the completely brand spanking new series starring
Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper, Chalky, Shirt and Tigger had gathered
at Shirt’s abode to witness television history. (see CDS…First
Night Nerves)
The
following year, Series 2 of the New Who commenced with New Earth and Chalky, Shirt, Tigger, Enigma, Scooby, Lupine, Aunt
Beru, Gwyneth and Jabe crowded into Enigma and Scooby’s flat for the joy of
David Tennant and Billie Piper battling the return of Cassandra and diseased
zombies. (see CDS…Second
Thoughts)
And
now, 2 years after the first such gathering, Series 3 was to begin. Billie had departed and David’s Tenth Doctor
was to be joined by brand spanking (oo-er missus) new companion Martha Jones,
played by Freema Agyeman.
Chalky,
Shirt, Tigger and Enigma acknowledged the now traditional first episode party
by gathering at Shirt’s abode. Lupine
and Aunt Beru were sunning themselves in Finland, and Scooby had prior engagements,
so the foursome settled down in Shirt’s lounge with plates of carbohydrates and
fizzy drinks anticipating the beginning of Smith
and Jones. Shirt had even made Dalek cookies for the occasion.
The
episode progressed and Martha’s hospital was transported to the Moon, a
Plasmavore sucked blood and the rhino-like (but not at all Sontaran-like)
Judoon scanned all and sundry. Tigger
got shushed for becoming vocally involved in the episode and then indignant
when Chalky and Shirt began talking instead.
Eventually
the episode finished. BBC3 was switched
on and ‘Doctor Who Confidential’ played on as the gang discussed the merits of
the opening episode. Tigger and Enigma
was appalled that the Doctor had kissed yet another companion, although this
seemed to stem mainly from jealousy at Freema getting to kiss David Tennant
rather than any traditional fan opposition to the Doctor kissing girls (as
there had been with Grace and Rose before).
They then proceeded to complain that the BBC should have a
‘Maria/Joseph’ style show to find the new companion (an idea that Tigger
decided she should get paid for) so they could both audition, with Enigma
hoping her ‘rock chick’ angle would bring a breath of fresh air to the series.
After
scoffing a bit more food, Shirt whipped out his brand spanking new ‘Doctor Who
and the Dalek’ Spinomatic TM Game (oo-er) and after arguing over who
got to be the Doctor, Martha, K9 and Captain Jack, proceeded to play a (very
long) game of jumping around a board after pressing the amazing SpinomaticTM
to get a number.
Desperate
for the company of Bendy Bob again (see CDS…Invasion
VII) Tigger and Chalky campaigned for Shirt to allow Enigma to experience
the delights of “The Big Taboo”.
Eventually it was time to go home and Chalky and Tigger dropped Enigma off home leaving Shirt to muse of the merits of Ms Jones.
