Band History

New Mexican Disaster Squad was formed in the wake of the break-up of Community Service in 1998. After Community service played together for several years, internal conflicts forced the group to disband.

Guitarist, Sam and drummer, Richard continued playing together recreationally while bassist, Andy formed the hardcore band Avaision and second guitarist, Brad kept a low profile.

After laying low for a while writing new material, Sam and Richard decided it was time to form a new band. A series of projects under several different names with several different members prooved unsuccessful. Then, in the early months of 1999, Sam asked his friend Matt Wittman to join up with him and Richard under the name New Mexican Disaster Squad. Matt speedily agreed, and work began on writing a full set.

After a couple months of practice, it was decided that a new guitarist was needed to round out the sound. Too Tall (aka Brian), from the local band Roger That, was asked to fill the position. After Roger That's drummer relocated to New Jersey and they broke up, Too Tall began practicing with New Mexican Disaster Squad.

After months of practice, New Mexican Disaster Squad played its first show at a friend's apartment complex. The show was to be the last appearance of local pop-punk staples Blackhead but, due to an unpaid parking ticket, the band's bassist was serving a month in jail. Despite Blackhead's absense, the show went on with New Mexican Disaster Squad opening for the Teen Idols.

To date, New Mexican Disaster Squad has released one 7" on Flat Broke Records and completed a very small, poorly planned southeastern tour. The Band looks foward to coming to your town to sleep on your floor and ear your frozen dinners. Contact them for booking info.
