MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN
(Born April 17th, 1964)

Maynard James Keenan The lead singer of Tool was born to a baptist family and grew up with an older sister in Ravenna, Ohio.

In 1982 he entered the army and was a member of the United States Military Academy. By this time he had lived in various cities such as Kansas, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas. He was a member of the wrestling team and cross country teams, the glee club and the local student newspaper.

Maynard then quit the military to study art, which eventually led him to Los Angeles. Before Tool, Maynard was in "Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty" (C.A.D) that releases an independent cassette called "Fingernails". He was also a member of another band called "TexAns".

In Los Angeles, Maynard was a neighbour of present Tool drummer Danney Carey. Maynard was a Kiss maniac when he was about twelve. Maynard has a son named Devo who is about 3 years old. Maynard is said to live currently in Arizona.

ADAM JONES
(Born January 15th, 1965)

Adam Jones Adam is the main guitarist for Tool. He was born and raised in the strict religious community of Libertyville Illinois.

His first taste of music was playing the violin in the second grade of elementary school. He then a stand up bass for three years in an orchestra in high school. In addition to playing in an orchestra, Adam played bass in a band called "Electric Sheep" with Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine in high school.

Adam recieved a scholarship to go to film school, but instead turned it down and went to art school. "I turned it down because i thought it would screw me up. So, i went to art school - and that screwed me up even worse."

He the moved to Los Angeles after art school to further his career in the film industry. Adam worked on various films in Hollywood, doing makeup and set design for such films as Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, Predator 2, Nightmare On Elm Street 5 and Ghostbusters 2.

Adam has an exceptional talent as a drawer, and is brilliant at charicatures. This can be seen with his work on such Tool video's as Stinkfist, Aenima and Sober.

Adam doesn't move around much on stage when playing bass for Tool. This is due to massive surgery to his knee and ankle. During his work on the film Dances With Wolves, Adam was attacked by a buffalo.

Adam Jones is a big Devo fan (music group). He used to be into skateboarding. Adam has many pets too. One of Adam's two pigs can be seen of the back of Undertow, he also has two cats, and three dogs.

DANNY CAREY
(Born May 10th, 1961)

Danny Carey Danny Carey, the drummer of Tool grew up in Paola, Kansas. His mother was a school teacher, while his father was a manager for a large insurance company.

Danny started taking drum lessons when he was ten or eleven, on the school band and he recieved his first kit at thirteen. Danny recived a scholarship in High School to go to the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City. Danny Carey studied music at University of Missouri for three years. He had a couple of offers to play basketball at small colleges, but knew he wasn't good enough to play major college basketball or turn pro.

In 1986, Danny moved to Los Angeles, and got heavily into electronic drums. Danny worked as a session player for Green Jelly and Pygmy Love Circus. Danny's day job was in Los Angeles working in a tape production house. Then he met Adam Jones, through Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine. Danny was also a neighbour of Maynard's in Los Angeles. He auditioned in front of Maynard and Adam and joined the band Tool.

Danny Carey is also in another band called Zaum. He has also been involved in another side project, a television sitcom called "Sibs".

JUSTIN CHANCELLOR
(Born November 19th, 1971)

Justin Chancellor Justin joined Tool when original bassist Paul D'Amour left in 1995. Justin had first met Tool in New York and kept in touch with the band for a couple of years. His band in England, "Peach" did a tour with Tool in 1994 all over Europe.

When Paul D'Amour left the band, Tool gave Justin a call. At first Justin turned them down, after agreeing to form a band with a friend since he was 14 after "Peach" broke up. But he decided against forming the band with the friend and Justin went to the United States and auditioned for Tool, which he became a member in 1995. He beat out serious competition for the job including Filter's Frank Cavanagh and Zaum's Marko Fox (who did the voice on Die Eier Von Satan).

Justin Chancellor is a very heavy bass player. He was married in January 1997.

PAUL D'AMOUR
(Born May 12, 1967)

Paul D'Amour Paul is originally from Spokane, Washington. He was brought into Tool by Adam Jones, but actually came to Los Angeles because of the film industry. He was thinking about quitting music, until Adam asked him to join Tool. He was an angry person, which fit right into Tool's music.

Paul left Tool and was replaced by Justin Chancellor in 1995 because of a shift in musical taste away from heavy, powerful riffs. He also wanted to get invloved in more experimental music other than Tool. Paul has his own band now called Lusk.
