Special Places

I set out to the special places
My awe at nature helps me kick over the traces
These places soothe my troubled soul
To just be, to be part of, not seeking control

I sit and watch from the top of the hill
The view before me gives me such a thrill
The best of times is when I am alone
No desire then to feel sorry or to moan

I imagine those from centuries before
Ancestral memories, tales from folklore
Of footsteps from the beginning of time
That walked these paths that now are mine

When they sat as I do and contemplated
Did they add to the peace, were their minds elevated?
It’s in these rare moments though fleeting I find
I’m part of the cycle in the journey of mankind
