Friday, February 20, 2009 from 2-5 pm and 6:30-9 pm

The Graduate Center of City University New York (CUNY) presents a celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Broadway premiere of Gertrude Stein's and Virgil Thomson's Four Saints in Three Acts.

The afternoon events will include a screening of Steven Watson's documentary Prepare for Saints with and introduction by Watson followed by talks and discussion with Karren Alenier, Encompass New Opera Theatre Artistic Director Nancy Rhodes, Steven Watson, composer Scott Wheeler, and American art historian Wanda Corn. The evening features a 30-minute live excerpt from Four Saints in Three Acts, directed by Nancy Rhodes with the Encompass New Opera Theatre, using a new edition of the score by Charles Fussell and the late Wiley Hitchcok. A moderated discussion with Charles Fussell, Nancy Rhodes, and others will follow the performance.

These free events open to the public include an exhibition of Stein memorabilia from the collection of Hans Gallas.
