The Yeerks have a new weapon, and she's
deadlier than ever....
Chapter 1
Reptep 468 of the Gadule pool looked at the creation on the table. This is a breakthrough!
The slug thought. I'll surely be promoted for this! Using his host's strong human hands,
he picked up the prototype and placed it into a sealed container to carry to Visser 3.
<And what kind of useless creation do you have now.> Visser 3 groaned. "Visser, I guarantee you'll like this one. This here is a robotic parasite."
<And why am I so interested?>
"Because, they are artificial warriors. Unbeatable. They could take the andilite bandits down for good, Visser, sir. All we need is a experimental host and-"
A new controller entered. The one who's host is a middle school principle. "Excuse me Visser, but my host's daughter would be a perfect host. She could no longer get in the way."
<Excellent idea Esplin 326. Bring her here in three earth hours.> "Yes Visser."
Chapter 2
Three days later
"I don't know, Melissa's been acting strange lately." Rachel said in the Animorphs usual meeting place, Cassie's barn. "I'm getting kind of worried."
"Yea," Cassie agreed. "I think maybe her 'parents' are getting to her again." They were all thinking about the same thing, just afraid to say it. Strangely enough, it was Jake who suggested it.
"Maybe we should tell her? Not give her the powers, not after David, but she could give us some information." The others nodded (those who could nod) in agreement. That is, all but Marco.
"I can't believe it! You are all insane! After what we were just through, you still suggest getting new members?!?!?! This is stupid."
"What Marco? Afraid she'll have a better punch line than you?" Rachel teased.
"No-okay fine. Do what you want. I don't care!"
"Okay, that's settled." Jake said. "Rachel, why don't you invite Melissa over."
"Sure." Cassie handed her a phone. "Hello? Melissa? It's me, Rachel. Do you wanna' hang out with some of my friends and I at Cassie's? We have something big to tell you."
Little did they know, that was the biggest mistake of their lives.
Chapter 3
"So your saying that there are slugs invading the planet? Yea, right. Ha ha, we all
had a good laugh. Now what did you really call me about?" The minocite said through
Melissa's mouth.
"We're are telling you the truth." Cassie reassured her. "Funny how we believed it when we were told."
Marco snorted. "That was because we had a blue dude from another planet in front of us. Maybe space-boy should demorph."
Jake sighed. "For once, I think Marco's right. Ax? Why don't you demorph."
"Yes Prince Jake. Jake, Jah-aaaake."
"Just Jake. No prince. No playing with sounds."
<Yes Prince Jake.>
Melissa pretended to act surprise. "Oh my gosh!" She slurred the words together. She started to scream when Cassie put her hand over her mouth.
"It's okay, he's on our side." Cassie soothed.
They explained about the construction site, Elfangor, and everything, Melissa was shocked to here that her parents were both controllers, but she seemed to handle it better then they thought.
"Well," Melissa said finally, "I better be going. Don't worry, I won't talk to anyone about this."
Chapter 4
"Okay we did it." Marco said. "Now can I go home? I have this project due
Friday, and I haven't even started yet!"
"She didn't act to surprised about our whole big story and all." Rachel commented.
Cassie nodded, "Your right."
<I don't trust her.> Ax stated.
Jake sighed. "I really don't have time to debate this, would you all happy if Tobias watched her for awhile?"
<I wouldn't mind. There's not much to do during the day.> Tobias admitted.
"Okay. Everyone cool with that?" Jake asked. They all agreed. "Good. Tobias?"
<On it.>
With that the meeting broke up.
Chapter 5
The minocite looked into Melissa's mirror. <I can't believe that the yeerk empire was
being threatened by 5 human children, and a young andilite!>
Minosite001 said, <And I'll be the one to catch them.> The alien started making its plans.
<What are you going to do?> Melissa asked fearfully.
The parasite ignored her. <Now Rachel seems to be the one who trusts you the most so->
<What are you going to do to Rachel?!>
<That'll work!> Minocite001 exclaimed. Using Melissa's hands, he picked up the phone and dialed. "Hi, Rachel? It's Melissa. I got some info. The two of us need to meet."
"How about the woods?" Rachel suggested.
"No!" The minocite answered quickly. The last thing he wanted was that andilite and nothlit to get in the way. "I mean, wouldn't you much prefer the mall? I heard there are some great sales." It was perfect, exactly what Melissa would have said.
<NO! NO RACHEL! DON"T> Melissa cried, but no one could hear her.
"Sure, why not."
The minocite smiled. "See you then."
Chapter 6
"Hi Melissa." Rachel said when she opened the front door.
"Hey Rachel! Ready for some shopping?"
"Aren't I always? Let's go!"[a/n: okay, I admit, she sounded like a ditz there]
They walked to the bus stop. They waited for twenty minutes that slowly turned to thirty, that slowly turned to forty.
"Come on." Melissa finally said. "I know a shortcut." She led the way. "Hey." Rachel exclaimed. "This is the old warehouse! The mall is nowhere near here." "I know, that was just an excuse in case my parents over heard."
"Oh." Rachel said, feeling genuinely stupid.
Melissa signaled with her hand. "This way." Rachel stepped in, not noticing that Melissa had locked the door behind them.
Chapter 7
"Okay, so what's the news?" Rachel asked.
"Absolutely nothing." Melissa sneered. Something almost like metallic armor covered her skin. A cyber eye covered one of her's.
"What are you." Rachel asked already poised and ready to fight.
"I am a minocite. Warriors created by the yeerks to defeat their enemies. And my assignment as the first one, was to wipe out the andilite bandits, or should I say, Animorphs."
"What have you told them?"
"Nothing yet. But once I'm through with you, I will tell the entire empire."
"Not if I can help it." Then, Rachel attacked.
Chapter 8
<And then he followed Melissa in.> Tobias concluded.
"So? What's so suspicious about it?" Marco asked.
<Besides the fact the doors are locked?> "Maybe that's just for security." Cassie suggested.
<Then why weren't any of us informed about this?> No one had an answer for that. <My thoughts exactly.>
"Tobias? Go human and try to get in, just incase of controllers. The rest of us will be in battle morphs waiting surrounding the place. Got it?" Jake asked.
<Sure thing.> Tobias began morphing. He walked to the door. Still locked. There were noises coming from inside, sounded like a fight. He began to pick at the lock.
Chapter 9
Rachel longed. Minocite001 dodged and kicked her in the back. Rachel stumbled slightly but
was soon back in control.
She let out a not too graceful kick that managed to swipe Melissa across the face. Melissa held her bloody nose.
"You'll pay for that!" she extended to sharp metal claws attached to her hand. She scratched Rachel across the arm.
"Ow!" Rachel cried.
"What's wrong Rachel? You're not cowering in some other form." 'Melissa' mocked.
With lightning speed, she knocked Rachel to the ground and had her at gunpoint. "I win."
"No." Rachel said flatly. She swung her fist and knocked the Dracon out of her hand. With a dive/roll, Rachel had the gun. She pressed her knee into the creature's chest. "I think you played the wrong card." For thirty seconds they just glared at each other.
"Well?"Minocite001 finally asked, "what are you waiting for." Rachel stood up.
"I won't do it. I won't kill Melissa too." She tossed the gun aside.
Melissa smirked. "It is unwise to lower your defenses!" She kicked Rachel in the chin, causing her to fall back.
"That's it!" She cried grabbing a crowbar, she ran ready to strike toward Melissa.
Minocite001 just smirked. It was over in a mater of seconds. Rachel was running toward her. When she was to close to stop in time, Melissa extended a single long claw.
Rachel's eyes went wide in terror has she impaled it.
Minocite001 looked directly into her eyes. "Game. Over."
Epilogue
Tobias finally managed to pry open the door. Inside was a room a full of crates. It was
silent. Dead silent. He looked across the poorly lit room. In the center was a figure,
sprawled across the floor. "Rachel?" he called softly. He stood over the girl.
She managed to find her voice. "Tobias?" She croaked. "Is that you? I can't see you."
"It's me." He whispered as he knelt beside her. His knee landed in a shallow, dark puddle.
Blood.
Rachel's blood.
"Are you all right?" he asked. Of course she's not. He thought.
"She's here."
"Who?"
"Her." Rachel groaned in pain.
Tobias held her hand in his. "Everything's going to be all right."
She looked at him sadly. "Your lying and you know it." He stroked her hair trying to comfort her.[a/n: sorry I'm kinda a romantic, so just had da' put that in.;P] She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"Tobias, tell the others that they were the best friends anyone could have, and I miss them all." She paused, then added, "even Marco's jokes." Tobias laughed softly. He looked into her blue eyes, he saw the strong Rachel he knew in them, but that shimmer was fading.
"Tobias?"
"Yes?"
"Goodbye."
"Goodbye, Rachel." He whispered. But he knew she couldn't hear him, she was already gone.
Sob! No . . .
