It was springtime on Peppermint farm & the
Peppermint Pigs were
excited. The peppermint trees were budding and it was
time to start
planting their Peppermint gardens.
First they would have to plow the garden and next they would plant the peppermint
seeds.
Percy was busy plowing the garden while the girls sorted the seeds.
Perry was in the kitchen making lunch. After lunch everyone began planting the garden.
A week later, the seeds had begun to sprout. Everyone one was pleased, but the
gardens now needed to be weeded. The Peppermint Pigs decided they would take turns weeding and watering the gardens.
It was Polly's turn first, so the next day, she got up bright and early and
started to hoe the gardens. After only a short while, Polly noticed that one of the peppermint canes had been nibbled on.
"How strange," thought Polly. She decided to mention it at dinner that night,
but after hoeing all day, she was so tired she fell fast asleep at the dinner table before she could say a word.
The next day it was Perry's turn to water the gardens. While he was watering
the peppermint lollipops near the house, he discovered that one was missing!
So, when Perry went in for lunch he asked, "Who picked one of the peppermint
lollipops?"
Polly said it hadn't been her. Penny said it hadn't been her. Then Percy said
he hadn't done it and Patty said it hadn't been her, either. The Peppermint Pigs were puzzled. Then Percy said that it had
probably been a mouse that sneaked in and stole it. They all agreed that Percy must be right.
A few days later, Penny went out to pick a few canes and lollipops. She noticed
that more rows had been nibbled on. When she went closer to check, she heard a strange noise over in the tall grass. It sounded
like someone crying. She walked towards the sound and found a dirty little pig...full of peppermint...weeping in the grass.
She asked him who he was and why he was crying.
He said his name was Peter and he wanted to be a Peppermint Pig like her. Penny
told him not to cry. He could come home with her and she was sure the other pigs could help him.
When Penny and Peter got to the house, Penny explained who Peter was and how
much he wanted to be a Peppermint Pig.
Perry suggested that Peter could eat a lot of peppermint all at one time. Maybe
that would work! They all ran out to pick peppermints from the gardens and the trees, and brought them back to Peter.
Peter sat down at the table and began eating peppermint candies, peppermint
canes, and peppermint lollipops. He ate and ate until they were all gone and his belly was bulging. They all looked
at each other and Peter went to the mirror and looked at himself and started weeping all over again. He hadn't changed at
all!
