Phenomenal Woman
30"x40" - Not For Sale
This 2005 painting was a piece that I presented to my wife as a Christmas present - a tradition that I have upheld since 1995. To show how special my wife is, I used a woman walking on water (or, rather, dancing on water), Mount Rushmore-like figures in the background (using female heads instead of male, presidential portraits), joyous female dancers on both sides, and three "female" ships on the water - reminiscent of The Nina, The Pinta, and the Santa Maria. The ship, in the middle, has has a large "P" on it (for Phenomenal) and the medical symbol of female (for Woman).

Pandora’s Box

Here is my interpretation of the Greek myth of Pandora's Box - the story of the unfortunately curious woman who opened a box - which she was forbidden to touch - resulting in the release of every woe unto the world. The bottom right corner of the painting (in the small yellow circle...) shows the one good thing that she brought forth onto the universe: Hope.

The Conception Dance

This is my interpretation of the beautiful dance that guarantees that the human race continues on into the future! In it, the gracefully divine female figure joins forces with the vibrantly energetic male. The woman's main role, in procreation, is represented by the "eggs" that contribute more prominently to the "DNA" of the offspring. The man's "swimmers" play a smaller, but integral, part in the role of bringing new life into the world. The "chemistry" - both physical and figurative - creates the womb that contains the future, a person who promises to dance off into the future!

Succubus - Dance of the Malebashers

A succubus is a female demon who descends upon, has intercourse with, and curses men. "Male-bashing" is misandry, or the equivalent of female chauvinism. Basically, any negative statement that starts with "All men are...." falls into the "misandry" category.

The Ecstasy

This painting was inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini's sculpture, "The Ecstasy of St. Theresa". The "ecstasy" refers to the extreme pleasure and pain felt by the touch of God - represented by the warm orange colors in the clouds, on the figure, and on her clothes.
