Recordkeeping 1 covers basic financial management on a personal and business level.  Banking, wise credit card usage, and budgeting are covered.  Students create their own business in small groups and present their plans, financial reports, and ideas to the class with a special oral presentation.

Recordkeeping is a pre-requisite to Accounting 1 and is a good stepping stone to a future in business finance.

Accounting is the language of business.  This course offers a hands-on approach to planning, keeping, and analyzing business transactions in order to make wise business decisions.

Students will learn the rules of debits and credits to keep the basic accounting equation in balance.  Students will form their own sole proprietorship in a special project requiring opening a restaurant in Houston.  Students will also get a chance to participate in:  Advertising (flyers, business cards, and a creative poster), Managing Human Resources (hiring, payroll, etc.), Planning a business (mission statements and business plans), and Reporting financial information (Balance Sheet and Income Statement).  As a student, you will also get a chance to learn how to keep accurate financial records and maintain a checking account.  Neatness and accuracy is required, as well as some interest in business or mathematical applications.
