Season 2 DVD
The April Blockbuster Video magazine contains a short article on the series 2 X-Files DVD set due out next month. They use a photo of Samantha Mulder floating in mid air as the magazine did not have the DVD cover available at time of printing and the article is as follows:
This is the complete second series of the phenomenon X-Files. Special features include:
Blockbuster has the set priced at $159.95 with the release date is April 20. Elsewhere the release date is given as April 18.

Sticking with the video magazines, the April Ezy Entertainment magazine has Return to Me listed at No.10 in their Top 20 videos chart.
ThanX Lucy.

What Was She Thinking?
Today's Who Weekly has the already infamous photo of Gillian Anderson at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.

What Was She Thinking? Part 2
The Courier Mail on Wednesday also printed the Gillian Anderson Vanity Fair party photo.

You can see three shots at the eZuma website. If that link doesn't work just seach for Gillian Anderson and you'll find the shots.

Surekill
Wednesday's Gold Coast Bulletin incorrectly stated that "Surekill" would be screened that night, when in fact it screened last night, Thursday. On the TV page "Surekill" was rated as one the best shows of the night, receiving four out of four stars. Also, the review incorrectly claimed that Mulder would make a brief appearance in the episode.

If the buyer is in Brisbane I can bring them down with me when I am on holidays (May/June) which will be cheaper than postage. Note: I checked Yahoo after I read Clare's e-mail (Tuesday 8:20pm) and the GA chat wasn't listed ...

Also the Sydney 2Dayfm (104.1) morning crew (6am to 9am) are in LA this week for the Oscars and they will be interviewing Robert Patrick sometime this week.

Sunday Mail
Yesterday's Brisbane Sunday Mail TV Scene magazine had a one-page X-Files article which had a few items on Gillian Anderson but was basically a review of The X-Files from the beginning to the present day.

The story claimed that the show had a new lease on life, with the role-reversal and the new characters. They even have a great cartoon picture of Doggett.

ThanX Lucy and dark.

Apex
Earlier this month Gillian Anderson won Best Actress In a Leading Role at the 20th annual Apex Awards for her House Of Mirth role, beating Laura Linney in You Can Count On Me and Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich.

Fox Wants The X-Files Back (and the Fans Want Fox Back)
From The Hollywood Reporter:
Fox Wants The X-Files Back
"What a difference a year makes," Fox President Sandy Grushow said in his opening remarks. "We have turned this ship around. We have reconnected with our audience". Grushow cited the creative revival of Ally McBeal and The X-Files and noted that the network is in active talks with X-Files creator Chris Carter to bring that drama back for a ninth season in the fall.
Meanwhile, The US ratings for the spin-off The Lone Gunmen series have continued to slip to disastrous levels and there's already talk of cancellation.

Among the latest magazines on the local newsagent stands is an Xpose Yearbook Special. It's got Scully and Doggett on the cover in front of a big X. There's 7 pages of pictures and story. The pics are from late season 7 and early season 8 - no spoilers. It costs $13.14.

From Lyle on ausxfnews. Further details on his The X-Files Merchandise Website.

Where Am I Mulder?
There's a House Of Mirth review on Melbourne City Search website:
At a glance . . .

In a marked change of style from her alien-hunting character in The X-Files, Gillian Anderson steps into the elite circle of late-19th century New York in this adaptation of Edith Wharton's novel. Similar to another Wharton novel adapted to the screen, The Age Of Innocence, The House Of Mirth shares its scathing commentary on the hypocrisy of polite New England society, but the story turns on a female character, Lily Bart. Interpreted by Anderson, this beautiful socialite seems to be on the brink of glittering success, but her position is revealed to be much more precarious than she believed. A victim caught between her heart and her head, Lily is troubled by the life-changing question of who she should marry, or if she should wed at all.
Trish Maunder, CitySearch
The site has a video promo.

Courier Mail
Thursday's Courier Mail What's On section had a large photo of Robert Patrick and a half page article that apart from a few words is almost identical to the article that appeared in the March 11 issue of the Adelaide Sunday Mail TV Plus magazine.
ThanX Lucy for the above two items.

The Scully Song
From Ceruleanbleu:
Here are the lyrics to The Scully Song by Eric D. Snider. To listen to the song go to mp3.com.
There’s a woman I’m in love with her it seems
A red headed beauty who inhabits all my dreams
She is the object of my infatuation
She works for the Federal Bureau of Investigation
Oh my Scully
Agent Scully
When will you be mine?
You’re called an analytical and that’s just fine
I love my Scully
And I guess it’s time I told her
I’ll be with her some day even if that means I have to kill Mulder
She’s in spacious at little green men
Yet if you ask her she’ll say she doesn’t believe in them
She always saves Mulder’s butt when he screws up a maneuver
She’s the prettiest FBI Agent in skirts since J. Edgar Hoover
Oh my Scully
Agent Scully
You are my one true love
As beautiful as an angel
Or an alien from above
When you yell freeze, FBI
It makes me shake and quiver
You’ve conquered monsters and things that are covered in goo and mucus and who have abilities to change their skeletal structure and fly like people and eat your liver.
You’ve been stung by bees that gave you the plague
The aliens kidnapped you and harvested your eggs
The government gave you cancer but gave you the anecdote too
The truth is out there and the truth is I love you
Oh my Scully
Agent Scully
Your monotone turns me on
You can do an autopsy while firing your gun
You’re hair and make-up looks great
And while you’re saving the world
Mulder gets killed at least once every year
And it’s getting so old we really don’t care
But our Scully, she’s always alive and she’s well
And I know it sounds safe to say she’s my secret agent girl
Oh my Scully!
Trust no one
Here's a plug for her website, Skeptical Scully's Random Acts Of Unpredictability.

Eric Snider dedicates the satire "to my one true love in this world: Agent Scully". It was recorded live at at the Garrens Comedy Troupe show September 24, 1999, in Provo, Utah.

While at mp3.com I also noticed Scully's Song by Marcelo Roth.

Thursday
Channel 10 last night confirmed [see item below] that The X-Files has moved to Thursday nights....

Hey I'm back :-)

What's Been Happening:
On Sunday afternoon I went to add the news below to my site and got this message when I tried to login to Tripod:
Please Note: cactus_ian is no longer an authorized member of Tripod. This Tripod member has been removed because they violated our Terms of Service. For more information, click here. If you feel that there has been a mistake, please contact us at abuse@tripod.com.
I then got an e-mail from someone else to say his X-Files site on Tripod had also been shut down for violation of the Terms of Service, so I assumed it was for "breaching" 1013 and Fox's copyright.

However it turns out there was a glitch as explained in this message posted by Gem to ausxfnews:
Fannish network sources in the form of a contact with a Senior Programmer at Tripod, have informed us that, in fact, a sweeper bug at Tripod went insane this weekend, and deleted fully half their websites. There was no purge. There was no selective fannish bashing. It's apparently hugely embarassing to them, and they're working as fast as they can to get the sites restored.

Inside scoop from Derek Bruneau, director of engineering and personal publishing at Tripod:
"What's happened is that a technical glitch caused a bunch of sites to be removed accidentally. They're being restored today. Believe me, it wasn't targeted at anyone's site in particular. Lots of different sites [were swept] --including many of our favorites. It was just a really bad bug. Small bug, big effect. we're working as quickly as we can to get everyone's site back online. We know how terrible this is for members, so we apologize profusely. It's the last thing anyone needed right now."
I then tried to login to Tripod again on Tuesday night and got this message:
Dear Ian,

We apologize for the removal of your site over the weekend. Due to some technical errors, we mistakenly removed several member sites and are in the process of restoring them. We did not single out you or your site, please accept our apologies as we work to remedy the situation.

Sincerely,
The Tripod Team

Then today (Thursday) at 4:39 pm this e-mail message arrived:
Dear Tripod member:

Over the past weekend, Tripod experienced a technical problem with one of our automated scripts. This error resulted in the removal of several legitimate member accounts. We assure you that your site was not singled out for any personal reason, nor was it deleted because of its subject matter. Bugs are indescriminate and target everyone equally, no matter who they are or what they are passionate about.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We certainly understand how much time, effort and care goes into our members' sites, and are working steadily to reverse the problem.

We have already begun the process of restoring Tripod accounts. We expect this to be complete within the next 48 hours. You will receive a confirmation email once your site has been restored.

If you emailed Tripod concerning another service or abuse issue, we ask that you resubmit this request using one of the following addresses:
Abuse issue: abuse@tripod.com
General Questions: membership@tripod.com

Thank you for your patience in this matter. We are grateful for your loyalty to the Tripod service and we value your membership.

The Tripod Team
Then this login message:
Dear Ian,
Your account and content have been restored!

As you may know, Tripod recently experienced a technical problem that resulted in the removal of legitimate member accounts. Fortunately, our engineering team was able to quickly identify and squash the bug (we especially like the squashing part!) and all affected accounts have now been fully restored.

We apologize for any inconvenience our (now deceased) bug may have caused you. Your patience during this temporary interruption in service was greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sincerely,
The Tripod Team

There's news below written on March 18 and March 20 that you won't have read yet.

Thanks everyone for their support!

Feet Pattering
This week's Woman's Day had this photo of Gillian Anderson at the SAG awards.

From this week's TV Week:
The patter of more little feet.
Their marriage was said to be in trouble, but David Duchovny and Tea Leoni are to be parents again. The couple already have a 23-month old daughter named Madelaine. "We had a rule not to be away from each other for more than 20 days at a time( due to work), but we broke it," explains Tea of what caused the now-resolved tension.
ThanX Lucy.

Clarice II
Today's Brisbane Sunday Mail TV Scene liftout has a photo of Gillian Anderson accompanied by the following paragraph:
X-File star Gillian Anderson refuses to see new horror flick Hannibal. Anderson who plays FBI special agent Dana Scully, told friends that it was down to her and Julianne Moore for the female lead in the Silence of the Lambs sequel. Moore beat her out to replace Jodie Foster in the role of the FBI psychological profiler Clarice Starling and turns in a superb performance. Anderson was so distraught that she cried for days, friends said.
In additon to the 5 page David Duchovny article in the April issue of Dreamwatch (see below) there is a half page review on the Requiem video and a one page article where the magazine discussses the likely contenders for the father of Scully's baby. The main contenders are Mulder, Krycek, Skinner, Frohike and Cancerman.
ThanX Lucy.

Via Positiva
A positive review of this week's episode, Via Negativa, in today's Sun-Herald Television magazine reads as follows:
Scully (Gillian Anderson) appears in this episode for about two minutes and Mulder (David Duchovny) isn't there at all - unless you count his brief appearance in the opening credits. Does this series really need its two founding characters? Judging by Robert Patrick's startling performance as Agent John Doggett in this installment, probably not. "This is damn weird," he says, examining an axe-bludgeoned corpse. "It gets weirder," notes Skinner (Mitch Pileggi). This is The X-Files at its creepy best, with a bonus appearance from The Lone Gunmen.
X-Files It Isn't
I've added a Gillian Anderson story titled X-Files It Isn't ... that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald back on December 29, 2000 to my Australian Media page.

Laughing It Up
Yesterday's Sydney Morning Herald had a feature story on The Lone Gunmen series. This is the promo for that article:
X-Files creator laughs it up with a new show
On this rare escape from writing and producing The X-Files, Chris Carter might have preferred hitting the beach with his surfboard - his other passion. Instead, here he was in a cold, rainy city on the opposite coast, seated in a dark, deserted hotel bar named Journeys. He was here for one reason only: to talk about his new show The Lone Gunmen.
You can read the full article on my Australian Media page.

Thursday? What Are They Thinking?
From Catriona on ausxfnews:
According to this morning's Courier Mail, The X-Files is moving to Thursday nights (same time, 8:30pm) from March 29. Good News Week will fill the Wednesday 8:30pm spot. On Thurdays The X-Files will be up against ER.

Scully Meets Her Match
The April issue of SciFi magazine contains a 4 page article on The Lone Gunmen series. Our falling Australian dollar has been reflected in the magazine's 10% price increase to $14.45 now. The February issue of the UK Empire magazine has a full page colour photo of Gillian Anderson with a short paragraph on her. The air-freighted April Dreamwatch magazine is now available at selected newsagencies and contains a 5 page article on David Duchovny where he is interviewed on a variety of subjects. Finally last Sunday's Adelaide Sunday Mail TV Plus liftout had an article on Robert Patrick titled Scully Meets Match, including a photo of him and Gillian Anderson. You can read that article on my Australian Media page.

ThanX as always to the wonderful Lucy for that news round-up and for transcribing the article.

Scully Marathon
This from Clare on ausxfnews:
"Each May, Neurofibromatosis Awareness Month, the OBSSE hosts a Scully Marathon to benefit NF, Inc as our way of honouring Gillian Anderson, an active spokesperson for NF, Inc. and herself, a member of an NF family, for her wonderful work on The X-Files." : From the OBSSE 2001 Marathon Site.

We are planning a Sydney Scully Marathon to be held on the 21st or the 22nd of April. Anyone can come along! There are 13 Scullycentric episodes in the line up. Everyone is welcome to come see a few or join us for the whole day! We are currently negotiating a venue in the Parramatta area and will have news on that over the next couple of days. You need the coupon on their competition page to enter. The magazine has a review of the movie and a pic of the video cover. The competition closes on May 15.

Lily Bart
This week's TV Weekhas 3 photos of Gillian Anderson as Lily Bart from House of Mirth and although it gives the release date as June 30 but I'd still be inclined to go with the June 21 date mentioned below.

The weekend's Brisbane Sunday Mail TV Scene liftout had a photo and short paragraph on Kathy Griffin, who was in Fight Club as Betsy and Lulu, about her recent marriage. There was also a paragraph where they said the new X-Files spinoff series is The Lone Gunmen starring Dean Hagland, Bruce Harwood and Tom Braidwood. The article describes a LGM scene similar to Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible (dangling from a cliff) which was previewed in the Joy Of X Chris Carter special that aired on the BBC in the UK late last year.
ThanX Lucy.

Bounty Hunting in Australia
From Rob Brown and posted to ausxfnews by Pam.

Brian Thompson , the Alien Bounty Hunter from 8 seasons of The X-Files will be in Sydney for the Friends of Science Fiction convention on June 3 at the Lidcombe Catholic Club. He will be appearing with Buffy actor Emma Caulfield (Anya).

This event was originally being run by Studio Hollywood (Sydney) and Armageddon (Auckland). There has been a business "falling out" and the Sydney leg was under some doubt. FSF have agreed to keep the event alive so that the fans don't miss out. The Auckland event is as planned.

Pricing has been structured for the Sydney event, FSF members $60 and non members $75.

FSF are happy to extend the members price to aus.tv.x-files people.

When booking tickets mention that you are from the newsgroup and ask for the members price. For the Sydney event to be held at the Lidcombe Catholic Club, email tix@fsf.com.au for info or bookings. Info and ticket purchases can also be made by contacting FSF, (02) 9523 8385 or by writing to P.O Box 797, Fairfield, 1860 , NSW.

For both the NZ and Sydney events visit their websites, http://www.fsf.com.au and http://www.pulpexpo.com/.

Soap Cult
The April Inside Soap magazine (page 46) has a photo of David Duchovny accompanied by a series of summaries of some series 1 and 2 episodes which run from Miracle Man to 3 that are airing on Foxtel.

The February Cult Times UK magazine has a Scully and Doggett cover and has a 4 page article on William B Davis and 4 page article on Robert Patrick plus 2 pages of X-Files news, mainly on Gillian Anderson and The Lone Gunmen. There is also noticed an ad for Starburst #270 which will come with two 8" x 10" X-Files photo prints - one is of Mitch Pileggi and Nicholas Lea and the other is of Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson and Robert Patrick. These 2 magazines should be available at newsagents in a month's time or now at comic shops.

Just an addendum to a previous posting: The articles in last week's Sunday Telegraph TV magazine and the February 23 Newcastle Herald TV Guide are completely different. The Newcastle Herald article deals with Chris Carter where he talks about series 8 so far and and when asked the question about Cancerman being dead he says "we haven't taken his pulse yet."

There is a small photo ofTea Leoni and David Duchovny in NW with a short article entitled Two for Tea:
Star couple Tea Leoni and David Duchovny are expecting their second child! The Hollywood power duo, who already have a 22-month-old daughter, Madelaine West, have never made a secret of the fact that they're keen to expand their brood.

Tea, who stars alongside Nicolas Cage in The Family Man, has revealed she'd like to have six children, while David said he'd love three.

" Tea has a really wonderful, happy glow about her", says a close pal. " They are both deliriously happy."

Brave New Girl
Gillian Anderson is on the cover of today's Sun-Herald Television magazine, with a story titled Brave New Girl. There is a photo of Gillian with Mitch Pileggi and Robert Patrick. This is what the promo on page 2 says:
The future of long-running science fiction hit The X-Files was left in limbo last year when David Duchovny announced his intention of leaving the show while co-star Gillian Anderson was still committed for another two years. Executive producer Chris Carter tells Television magazine how he overcame this dilemma by expanding Anderson's role.
The Dish on Gish
Thursday's Rockhampton Morning Bulletin TV Times magazine had a 1/4 page review of the upcoming Invocation episode along with a photo of Robert Patrick. In other magazines January UK magazine Impact has a 4 page preview of series 8 and Agent Doggett. The January/February US mag Film Comment is on sale locally and has a Gillian Anderson cover and an 8 page article inside about her and House Of Mirth plus short reviews of House Of Mirth and David Duchovny's movie Return To Me. Last week's Who Weekly there was a short article on Annabeth Gish who will play a new character on The X-Files later this year. Apparently Chris Carter had a tough time choosing her between Daphne Zuniga and Stacy Edwards, however the magazine hinted it would not be surprised if the latter 2 made appearances in new The Lone Gunmen series.

House Of Mirth
According to The Village website, Gillian Anderson's The House Of Mirth will be released in Australia on Saturday, June 30 2001. That's a bit strange as movies always start on a Thursday here... Anyway, here's the publicity blurb from their website:
Gorgeous Lily Bart is the envy of New York society in the early 1900s. Poor but well-bred, she can pick and choose between wealthy suitors. But, as so often happens in these films, the man she truly loves is poor Lawrence Selden. As Lily weighs up the pros and cons of marrying for wealth, she is drawn into a scandal that threatens her future.
