A6M2 "Itaya"
This is the Zero of Lt. Commander Shigeru Itaya from the carrier Akagi. The Akagi launched 9 fighter, which LCDR Itaya commanded. He also assumed command of 43 fighters from the other carriers that constitued the covering force. Upon reaching Pearl Harbor, they strafed Hickam and Ewa fields- leaving about 25 aircraft buring. In return, Itaya's number one wingman was shot down by antiaircraft fire. The Akagi went on to attack in the area of Rabaul, Kavieng, Truk, Marshall Islands, Port Darwin, Java, Colombo, and finally Midway, where the Akagi was sunk. I can't find any info on Itaya's kills, or fate. By Jim Sterling.
