Welcome to Man-lin’s Music Site.

My name is Isabel Mao, also known as Chung Man-lin to many in the Asian American community. I am a soprano, also a voice and piano teacher in the San Francisco Bay
 Area.

To learn more about me, you may explore various pages to access my collection of essays published in the Chinese World Site over the past three years;  listen to me in studio and live performances as well as view photos of me and the activities of my students.   I have also dedicated a page to my beloved teacher and mentor, Mr. Yi-Kwei Sze, a world-renowned bass-baritone, featuring photos and recordings of Mr. Sze.

A word of encouragement from me to music lovers:

"I have worked in the business world for over 25 years, but all my life, my heart has always been in music.   I began to play piano when I was four and would love to sing as I played, but I never had any formal music training.

My music career began well into my adulthood after I became accepted to be a student of  Mr. Yi-Kwei Sze who had just retired from Eastman School of Music, Rochester University.   He challenged me, guided me, and taught me not just the techniques of singing but more importantly, how to interpret and express the spirit and soul of music.   I have a greater appreciation and love of music than I ever had because of him.

Now, I encourage anyone who has music in his or her heart but did not have a chance to pursue it, to do so without hesitation - it's never too late.   You don't have to change your life or your career but I promise you, music will enrich your life!"
