Peterhead 3 Cowdenbeath 1
Saturday, September 25
Third Division
Cowdenbeath - Gribben (41)
Peterhead - Raeside (9), Michie (36,
73)
Cowden suffered their second succesive away defeat after being
outgunned by the league leaders at Balmoor Stadium. The home side were always in command and ran out comfortable victors.
Two goals were conceded from corner kicks during the first
half and the Blue Brazil were left chasing the game. A downward header from Robbie Raeside gave Peterhead the lead with just
nine minutes gone and Scott Michie doubled the Blue Toon's advantage when he slotted home a loose ball from six yards.
Under-strength Cowden never really looked at ease but new
striker Darren Gribben threw the Blue Brazil a lifeline when he opened his account in spectacular fashion just before the
break. John Paul Kelly picked up the ball on the half-way line and drove forward before slipping a pass to Gribben who lashed
the ball into the net from 20 yards,
The home side were shaken but recovered during the second
half and Michie ran through the middle to steer the ball past Andy Carlin and put the match beyond Cowden's reach.
