Posted Saturday, May 12, 2001 Another First In The Sim Community! I am very pleased to offer you the opportunity to create your own custom skins! This project has been in the works for quite a while. Why? Because I can't keep up with everyone's requests. I wish I could make every skin that all of my visitors could ask for, but that isn't possible. So what's the next best thing? Let you make your own custom skins! The best way to allow you to create your own skins is to allow you decide which features your skins need to have. For my initial offering (more to follow), I am presenting the Male head template. This template allows you to set normal features such as eye color, mouth, Hair styles, facial hair, Piercings, and other cool features. There are also sets of extreme layers for the living dead, extreme piercings, sunglasses, blood, surgical garb, chimp, Neo's mouth, etc.. What is required by you? Practically nothing! You will be able to create a custom skin simply by turning layers on and off. The process is similar to Paper Dolls, Colorforms, or Mister Potato Head. Once you have decided the features you want your skin to have, export the image to your game folder, then "Presto", custom skins! Are There Any Special Tools? Yes! The only way that you can take advantage of this method of skin creation is to utilize an art program that supports "layering". While there are many out there that have this capability, most can cost quite a bit! Adobe PhotoShop can cost over $600. JASC Paint Shop Pro can cost over $100. Fortunately, I have found a program you can get for relatively cheap. I have made a deal with Serif Incorporated to get PhotoPlus 7 at "half" the normal price. It normally sells for $59.95. Through this deal, I can get it for you for $29.95. If you want to play your game with skins that you created yourself, it should not be a lot of money. Take a look at the group of heads posted below. All of these heads were created with "one" template. By turning features on and off, you can create a custom face in seconds. You don't need artistic talent. You don't need to learn a lengthy tutorial. Just turn features on and off, save the file, and enjoy!
