The model consists of six compartments representing the MILIEU, ENDOSOME, CELL, RNA, PROTEIN, and PRODUCT.The computer model calculates, as a function of time, the amount of DNA in the milieu,ENDOSOME, and CELL compartments, the amount of mRNA in RNA compartments, the amount of gene products in the PROTEIN and PRODUCT compartment.Flux between compartments is determined by numerical methods to reflect the biological processes of uptake, endosomal transport into cells, transcription,translation, and secretion, respectively.Materials in each compartment also undergoes degradation.Arrows indicating the deficient kinetic variables as shown.
