...If you have any scandalous Dum Dums gossip or nice things to say about the site then please email me

Hello and welcome to the all new Dum Dums website 'it's great when you're...yeah!'.  I first saw the band on a very, very, very rainy evening at Guildford Uni last September when they were supporting the wonderful My Life Story. All I'd been told about them was that they sounded a bit like Supergrass and that they were quite good!

My first impression (and don't worry, I've dramatically changed my mind since) was that they'd be better off playing the Tunbridge Wells Forum, which used to be a public toilet and is now filled with people who are trying way to hard to be alternative and punk! (sorry guys)  But as their set went on they really won me over, Josh's vocals on 'Everything' seemed to fit the 80's theme of the tour (Younger Younger 28's were on first support) which instantly upped their status in my mind and suggested an element of humor to the band that I didn't grasp straight away ( Josh wasn't quite so confident then, though. Either that or he didn't feel that the student crowd needed sex education lessons!).  I was also really impressed by the use of lollipop shaped bribery to win the crow over and, following a conversation with a bloke who was giving out flyers, I discovered that Josh lived about 20 miles away from me, meaning that (and as everyone who lives in urban Kent will know) they are the best local band ever!

Being the MLS fanzine writer and a huge fan of the YY28's, I ended up going to a lot of the gigs on that tour and by about the third time I saw the Dum Dums I was hooked. On the surface, they might just look like another guitar based indie band, but they're actually really poppy and, above all really funny.  Josh really is a comic genius but without trying too hard to be funny (See Hanson t-shirt for details). What's more they're all really, really nice (And you can trust me on that one, I've seen their patience with ten year olds who scream REALLY loudly).

They've also go the most diverse network of fans I've ever com across.  Two days ago, at The Garage there was, amongst others, screaming girls, punks, skaters, indie fans, MLS fans, one Goth (hi Alan!) and no fights!  Which makes watching the crowd almost as entertaining as watching the band!

As the infinitely wise Josh Doyle once said, ' The best bands are the ones you acquire a taste for' so I suppose that makes them one of the best bands.  I went from being quite unimpressed to liking them enough to endure being in the same room as Dr Fox for a couple of hours! And all this in the space of seven months! Is world domination on the cards? Watch this space!
