is Shinji's father. He is the commander of NERV.
Hidden inside him is the motivation and the secret intention of all his
acts. It seems that he dedicated his life for something and that something
must have been big. He even left his own boy for that goal. |
History

Gendou first met Ikari
Yui (his late future wife) when they were in college together. He tried
to get close to Yui because of her link to some secret cult, some said.
No one knows because Gendou seems to have a closed and cold personality.
Later on, he become a significant member of some secret organizations.
Despite his position, he carries his own agenda with every action he made.
He then became married to Yui. |

Yui gave birth to a handsome
young boy. He was given a name, he's called Shinji. Yui loved Shinji so
much that she spent almost all the time she could give for Shinji. Unfortunately,
during an EVA test, Yui had an accident. Her soul was trapped inside an
EVA while doing an experiment. Gendou and his team tried to save her. But
all they could get is Yui's body, without her soul. After this accident,
Gendou's changed drastically and left Shinji alone. |
