Chapter 3

By the end of the day Fluffy and Ash had become very good friends. Fluffy had heard all about Ash's summers at Computer Camp where she studied website design and software constriction.  Fluffy was surprised about how well they got along. They had spent so long talking that before Fluffy knew it, it was almost dark. "Oh no!" She exclaimed looking at her watch. "It's after 5; my mum is going to kill me!"

"Surly not." Ash said with a surprised look on her face. This caught Fluffy of guard.

"Of course not really, it's just a figure of speech." She said taking her cell phone out of her bag and calling her home number. Sure enough her mom was home and not happy.

"Let me see the phone." said Ash. Fluffy gladly handed over the screaming phone as Ash put it up to her ear. "Hello, Mrs. Winter." She said calmly. "Yes this is Ash; I'm a new friend of Fluffy's. Sorry she is late; I've been trying to catch her up on classes." A few "yeah, ah huh's" later Ash hung up the phone. "No problem. She is happy you joined a study group."

"Wow, you saved me!" Fluffy said smiling taking the phone back and putting it in her bag.

"No problem." Ash said, "It's not like slaying dragons."

"Wouldn't know, never slay..." Fluffy caught herself. "I mean, No, it's not. I'm sure a dragon is more pleasant."

 Ash laughed.

"Come on, I'm sure Alex is still behind the bookshelf waiting on us."

"I am not!" a voice said suddenly and Alex poked his head up from the far end of their table.

"What are you doing?" Fluffy asked.

"I'm watching the man who is behind the bookshelf." He said pointing to a far shelf.  At that moment a book fell off it and they heard shuffling of his feet. Fluffy looked at Ash and as though reading each other's mind they stood and ran after the steps.

Meanwhile making his way to the exit Ted Farmer was trying to get to the door before he was seen. At that moment that he reached the door, he heard a fall of Fluffy's bag. As quickly as he reached the door a small sharpened stake came flying and stuck in the door as tightly as if it had been a sharpened blade. Farmer froze in fear.

"Blast!" Fluffy exclaimed.

"What?" said Ash who came to a stop beside her. "That was a great warning shot."

"I wasn't trying to warn him, I was trying to stake him!" she explained and grabbed her bag and ran to the door where Farmer still stood frozen in fear.

Alex tapped the shoulder of the frightened man causing him to scream and jump away in fear.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Fluffy asked him.

Farmer stumbled with the book in his jacket pocket.

"Ted Farmer, your new Watcher!" he said showing her the tattered cover.

"Oh no!" Fluffy said and took the book. "Not another one of you!"

Farmer regained his composure and removed the stake from the door. "I have been assigned as your watcher. I have to papers to prove it."

"You're not proving anything." Fluffy exclaimed looking around at the confused faces of her confused friends. "Why were you following me?"

"I was trying to think of the best way to introduce myself. It isn't like I can get a job at the school library and introduce myself in your life that way."

"Oh no, You prefer the stalker approach."

"And you prefer the staking approach."

"Hey! I was protecting my friends!" She said taking the stake out of Farmers hands. Alex made a victory pose. He was happy to be considered Fluffy's friend.

"You should make sure your victim has a pulse before you slay." Farmer said taking his book back.

"Not unless he is a demon, they have pulses even though vampire's don't." said Ash from behind them.

 Both Farmer and Fluffy turned to her. "How do you know that?" Fluffy asked.

"I catch on quickly." She said.

"Plus she has been reading a lot about them on the internet getting ready for her History Final."

"Your history final includes Demons and Vampires?" Fluffy asked.

"Well, no. Not really. But it does include Witchcraft, which is how I stumbled on to all the unexplained incidences." explained Ash. "Sunningdale is not your ordinary town. There are unexplained disappearances and injuries reported everyday."

"What are you talking about?" asked Fluffy starting to look a little worried.

"She is right. Fluffy" said Farmer. "Sunningdale has been a hub for demon and dark activities for years."

"Not all the demons and vampires that come here are exactly a threat. They usually cause more harm to themselves they to us." explained Alex. "Don't get me wrong, they still kill, and are a threat after dark, but the real threat is Count Von Whedon. He's been the king pin of the Underworld for years."

"Count Von Whedon?" said Fluffy, still trying to grasp the situation. All her new friends knew more about demons and vampires then she did.

"And you are a Slayer." said Farmer.

"A Slayer?" Said Ash, "Okay, I'll believe in Demons, and vampires, but Slayers?"

"Every generation a Slayer is Born. One who has..."

"Yeah yeah, I've heard it already."

"And that is you?" asked Alex.

"No, I'm in training. I might become a Slayer...if the current...hundreds die."

"And I've been assigned to be your Watcher. To train you for that day."

"Have you not heard want happened to my last Watcher?"

"Did he get bitten?" asked Alex.

"Dismembered by a demon?" asked Ash.

"No, he got a broken nose and body from her." said Farmer pointing at Fluffy.

"He told me to use all my strength." she said pulling her bag on shoulder. "It's not my fault the door was faulty. If he had stood back while I closed the door it wouldn't have snapped off, I wouldn't have elbowed him in the nose and he would not have fallen down the stairs." Alex cringed at the thought a small man falling down a flight of stairs.

"So, it seems everyone here knows more about me then I do." Fluffy said glairing at Ash and Alex.

"No, not at all Fluffy." said Ash. "I still don't believe in Slayers."

"But you believe in Vampires."

"Well, I kind of have to." She said slowly backing away from Fluffy who stood in front of Farmer and Alex.

"Why." asked Alex.

"Because there is one in the door way behind you."
Fluffy jerked around and sure enough behind Farmer and Alex stood Count Von Whedon. Farmer and Alex ran away from the door and all of them cowering behind Fluffy.

"So the rumors are true," said the Count in his thick accent as good as a Bela Lagosie Film. "We have a Slayer in town." Fluffy raised her stake up ready to strike when from behind him Lily burst through announcing "Out of my way." And pushed the Count on to the ground, then from behind him came Rachel stepping over the dazed Count.

"We have to get our book for Mr. Roth's Class." Lily and Rachel stopped and looked at the wide eyed looks of the others in front of them. "What are you looking at?" Lily asked. Slowly from behind them Count Von Whedon rose and glared. He snapped his fingers; suddenly a swarm of other vampires came in behind him and shut the door. Lily and Rachel saw this and backed away.

"Oh my gosh!" said Farmer.

"We're surrounded!" said Alex.

"Good thing, I come prepared!" said Fluffy who pulled an automatic water gun from her bag and took aim.

"What?" said the Count. "Are you going to shoot me?"

"That's the idea." said Fluffy and she fired the water gun. Water hit the Count's hand and began to burn. He screamed in pain. Fluffy aimed it at the other vampires. "You going to let us pass?" she asked.

Before they could answer she shot the gun at them and they all ran from the room screaming. Fluffy put her pack on her back and motioned for the others to follow her. They ran in to the hall and out of the building. "We all have elsewhere's to be," she called back to them. "Take these and run!" She tossed a small water gun to each pair and when caught they all ran in different directions. Fluffy ran after the Count who was still burning from the holy water loaded gun and Lily and Rachel ran to their car. Alex, Ash and Farmer, ran to his car where they locked the doors and he drove off.

Mean while inside their car Lily and Rachel took a moment to asses where they were and what had happened. "Bloody hell!" exclaimed Lily "What were those things!"

"Defiantly underclassmen" Rachel replied.

However, as they spoke watching Fluffy run and Farmer drive away a pair of vampires lurched from the back seat of their car and sank their teeth in their necks, the girls screaming until they were dead.
