DEF'N: IM•PE•RI•AL = OF OR RELATING TO AN EMPIRE OR A SOVEREIGN.

The Imperial Toy Corporation (LLC), a California-based company with worldwide offices and locations, was founded in 1969 and remains to this day a leading toy manufacturer whose products include bubbles, bubble toys, steel trucks and an assortment of novelty items and playthings. "Fred Kort, the company's founder and a holocaust survivor, came to the U.S. after WWII and created Imperial Toy to bring fun to kids everywhere and to recreate the lost years of his own tumultuous childhood."—Vault.com Inc. Imperial Toys products are sold through a global network of distributors worldwide including retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart and Toys"R"Us. The company was purchased from the Kort family in 2006 by Peter Tiger and Art Hirsch (co-CEOs). The trademark logo has gone through a drastic, albeit playful change since the '80s.

"Even the imperials need their fun." —Vault.com Inc.

I don't recall the exact measure in feet the shelving unit was at Toys 'R 'Us, or maybe it appeared larger through my wonderlust eyes as a kid, but the store had you snake your way through the novelty items before getting to the main toy aisles. Within this plethora of party-favor and back-to-school items sat the impressive section of Imperial products for the Garbage Pail Kids licensed brand; one whole section washed in the royal blue of the Imperial packaging. It was epic. And, although I'd like to believe the packaging color was based off of the OS2 popularity, the Imperial 'royal' blue color was evident in a lot of their 80's packaging and product.

"The GPK section at Toys 'R' Us was like an ocean of 2nd Series royal blue." —GPKWorld

1986 RETAILER SELL SHEET CATALOG : FRONT COVER

"23 BIG, BIG DOLLAR - PRODUCING ITEMS" —Imperial Toy Corporation.
They were right, they reigned over the last half of 1986. All items MADE in TAIWAN.

On May 12th, 1986 the Topps Chewing Gum, Inc. and the Imperial Toy Corporation entered into a license agreement contract, that would expire on December 31st, 1987, which granted the Imperial company exclusive rights to manufacture, sell and/or distribute in the U.S. and Canada any goods bearing the Topps' trademark "Garbage Pail Kids"; Topps had the right to grant license rights for use in any territories. Per license, Imperial agreed to a nonrefundable annual advance payment of $25,000 and a 10% royalty payment based off of gross wholesale sales, with a minimum annual royalty payment guarantee set at $75,000. This agreement was going-down at precisely the same time that the OS4 GPK cards were being released in May and while the infringment suit brought by Original Appalachian Artworks (OAA), on March 5th, 1986, against the Topps Chewing Gum company was still pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Due to the pending litigation, Topps added a clause to the license agreement that if OAA should prevail the prepaid royalties shall be refunded and the license shall cease.

1986 RETAILER SELL SHEET CATALOG : INSIDE COVER #1

On August 29th, 1986 Topps was found to be intentionally violating OAA's rights, but the required bond was not posted straight away. Topps eventually settled the case out of court on February 2nd, 1987 by entering a stipulation that granted Topps unqualified use of the 'Garbage Pail Kids' name through September 1st, 1987 in the U.S. This is the reason the OS10 GPK cards released in September of that same year had a new banner logo and a new character model; the OS8 and OS9 sets were already ready for production or near completion after the case was settled during the OS7 release in February of 1987. Topps could also use the 'Garbage Pail Kids' name through February 1988 abroud; all international GPK releases going forward were to be titled with the 'The Garbage Gang' word mark (caveat, within the statute of limitations of the settlement); the trademark was filed on April 10, 1987, registration #1468265, and the registration date occurred on December 8, 1987. However, since the bond was never posted and Imperial's product was made overseas, the U.S. Customs Service began to deny entry of Imperial's GPK goods into the U.S. beginning September of 1986, only four to five months into the contract. Not only was Imperial robbed of enjoying the total benefits of the licensing agreement with Topps, several of its customers that were concerned with the court case and customs seizures cancelled their orders and as a result, Imperial was forced to sell GPK product it had already imported at 'clearance' prices.

1986 RETAILER SELL SHEET CATALOG : INSIDE COVER #2

Without Topps' cooperation, Imperial allegedly spent upwards of $3,500 on attorneys fees fighting the Customs Service to free the seized goods regardless of their rights of the use of Topps' registered trademark. Due to these seizures in October of 1986 no royalty payment was paid to Topps by Imperial; the unpaid royalty check total as of November 1986 was around $270 thousand; Topps did receive their $25,000 annual royalty advance payment. Depending on how fast product was placed on the shelves by Imperial after the May 1986 contract and the October customs seizures, Imperial had made upwards of $2.5 million dollars off of GPK-related merchandise in a four to five month period during the heyday of Garbage Pail Kids. Topps terminated the contract with Imperial as of November 18th, 1986, a whole year shy of the contract expiration. As of September 1986, it is recorded that Imperial sold $2.9 million dollars worth of GPK licensed product and another $310 thousand the following three months through December 1986. It is a question as to whether Topps misrepresented its ownership of the GPK trademark and copyright. OAA and Topps were not the only two companies to go go court.

1986 RETAILER SELL SHEET CATALOG : BACK COVER

On May 19th, 1988, Topps filed a suit against Imperial for the alleged breach of a license and trademark agreement; the OS13 GPK set would be released in June of that same year. Judgment was granted in favor of Topps with all counterclaims denied and dismissed. Had no complications arisen due to the case with OAA, collecters may have seen 'oceans of OS2 royal blue' through December of 1987, the same time the OS11 GPK set would have been released and possibly OS3 and OS4 GPK characters, instead of just OS1 and OS2 characters that were released ... or even for a longer period of time, had ties remained civil and the license agreement between Topps and Imperial been renewed. However, collectors were robbed and only saw Imperial items through the OS6 GPK release and any remaining Imperial GPK product that sold in stores until it disappeared. However, when all was said and done, those months that Imperial sold GPK product in stores had a very impacting and lasting impression on collectors. As a note of interest, since some of Imperial's packaging in the 80's consisted mainly of this majestic blue color, ADAM Bomb's blue suit has been changed to a red color for almost all of the packaging; original artwork by artist John Pound. This really washes the character out for the Imperial image since everything is already red around the character: GPK header, mushroom cloud explosion, ground cracks, suit plus tie and his reddish skin tone.

This color scheme may have been presented to Imperial by the Topps company who used the same layout for their previously released OS2 wrapper in 1985 that also changed ADAM Bomb's blue suit to a red one; rendered artwork by Tom Bunk. The red suit remains for the OS3 through OS5 wrapper releases by the Topps company. The Imperial packaging also uses the yellow 'star explosion' found on the Topps wrapper, but with far less 'head splatter', and the red 'registered trademark' symbol ® found on the OS3 GPK card header and OS2 wrapper.

PRODUCT NUMBER : NO. 7263 PEG HOOK + NO. 7278 BOX : ASSORTMENT 'A'
PRODUCT NUMBER : NO. 7264 PEG HOOK + NO. 7279 BOX : ASSORTMENT 'B'

COMPLETE SET : 48

POP-UP : PEG HOOK BACK — 12 CHARACTERS X2

The Imperial 'Pop-Up' toys, besides Topps' 'Cheap Toys' at the time, were really the only collectable toy characters for the Garbage Pail Kids line. There were rumors back in the day that Topps was going to make GPK dolls, cloth-like, muchlike CPK, but, there was also a local rumor that there was a OS2 Soft Boiled SAM puzzle. Imperial placed these sculptured and molded characters into garbage pails and the character would pop-up once the button was pushed, raising the lid and toy. Just like their card counterparts, Imperial smartly stuck an 'a' and 'b' name onto each character to double the characters and collectability possibilities; twelve OS1 GPK characters and twelve OS2 GPK characters. This shouldn't be confused with the 'Assortment A and B' as far as packaging goes; twelve molds were created for each 'assortment' which was doubled once the twin name was applied; the retailer had two different assortment of characters to choose from to order to possibly double sales, which equaled 48 characters in total (24 molds). Only the 'b'-names were pictured on the backside of the peg hook packaging (No. 7263 and No. 7264) which contained images for all 24 models and both assortment of characters. The counter display box packaging (No. 7278 and No.7279) appears to be extremely difficult or nearly impossible to track down; the display box states 'Pop-Ups' rather than the singular 'Pop-Up'.

FRENCH-CANADIAN SINGLE POP-UP SAMPLES : FRONT, BACK, SIDE, TOP AND BOTTOM:

'SAUTEUR' DIRECT TRANSLATION; ADJ. TO JUMP OR HOP ... BASICALLY TO 'POP UP'.

PICTURES PROVIDED BY AND COURTESY OF BEN HARTER

Although the Imperial ADAM Bomb mascot is pictured on the back of the packaging checklist (pictured further above) for the Blasted BILLY toy, the character still has the tradiational blue suit, albeit with a red tie. The back of the peg hook packaging has the same 24 characters pictured for both the No. 7263 + No. 7278 (Assortment "A") and No. 7264 + No. 7279 (Assortment "B") packaging; but only the twelve Assortment "A" characters are actually displayed in the catalogue — these molds were most likely developed first and sent to the art department for packaging and lay-out.

The Retailer Catalog and the back of the 'peg hook' packaging shows the Pop-Up character baseplate as being white with no sticker nameplate but the actual product baseplate is red with a yellow nameplate.

PRODUCT NUMBER : NO. 7265
COMPLETE SET : 1

All Imperial products were released mid-year in 1986 following the agreement license contract between the Topps Chewing Gum Co. and the Imperial Toy Corporation and manufactured in Taiwan. The complete album package contained the 'Sticker Album' and the UPC product sleeve that both slid into a resealable cellophane bag. The album measures roughly 9x10 inches and the product sleeve roughly 5x6 inches.

As with most sticker albums released in the 1980's, the slick glossy pages were intended for the application and re-application of sticker adhesives placed in the album for collecting. The inside cover of the 'Sticker Album' had a place to record whose property the album belonged to and a brief synopsis of the individual collector. The inside cover is a matte finish intended for writing purposes only and there is a warning not to apply any stickers to that page; the remaining pages are high-gloss. The inside cover contains five OS1 characters not found on the back cover, except for ADAM Bomb. The album also contains a 6-pocket plastic sheet that could hold the collector's duplicate cards for trading purposes. The first glossy page contains the OS1 character ADAM Bomb, naturally. The pages measure roughly 8.5 inches.

The second and third glossy pages contain the OS1 characters RAY Decay and JENNY Genius—with 'E = mc squared' written on the page, respectively. The fourth and fifth pages contain the OS1 character JASON Basin and the OS2 character MARTY Mouthful, respectively.

The sixth and seventh glossy pages contain the OS1 character Nasty NICK—with stars on the page, and the OS2 character Muggin' MEGAN, respectively. The eight through twelfth pages contain the OS2 character JANET Planet, the OS1 character Haggy MAGGIE, the OS2 character Pourin' LAUREN—with sparkles on the page, the OS2 character Live MIKE and the OS1 character Bad BRAD—with English and Math on the page, respectively.

The inside back page and the back cover both contain a plethora of OS1 and OS2 characters; the inside back page that pictures twenty different GPK images mainly contains OS1 and OS2 characters not pictured on the backside or the front inside cover. The back cover pictures seventy GPK images with three duplicate charecters — without much planning; see the 'Bits & BOBs' section. The back cover measures roughly 9x10 inches.

The top thirty-six GPK images of the OS1 characters pictured on the back cover of the album is a snapshot of the OS1 uncut sheet; the section is outlined below. These images were most likely sent to the Imperial Toy Corporation by the Topps company to use as imagery for the 'Sticker Album' release and for a quick packaging design. Only 'stock photo' images for the A-name cards are portrayed within and on the album; and, although it appears that ADAM Bomb was erroneously pictured twice, that is how the character appears on the uncut sheet along with its variation card and was the image provided by Topps. These same images can be also found on the box packaging of serveral of the Imperial product releases.

The bottom thirty-six GPK images of the OS2 characters pictured on the back cover of the album is a snapshot of the OS2 uncut sheet; the section is outlined below — B-name characters used for this example. These images were most likely sent to the Imperial Toy Corporation by the Topps company to use as imagery for the 'Sticker Album' release; these images are wrapped around many of their display box releases. Only 'stock photo' images for the A-name cards are portrayed within and on the album; and although it appears that both PATTY Putty and Leaky LINDSAY were erroneously pictured twice, that is how the characters appear on the uncut sheet and was the image sent by Topps.

As with most of the Imperial Garbage Pail Kids licensed products, a Canadian 'Sticker Album' with French-Canadian writing was released alongside its U.S. counterpart.

The album can take a punch, it's nicely padded for its own protection.

SAMPLE SHEETS : TWELVE CHARACTER-SHAPED PUFFY STICKERS PER SHEET

Imperial released six different sticker sheets for the 'Stick-On' puffy stickers; three sheets of thirty-six various OS1 characters and three sheets of thirty-six various OS2 characters. It's too bad all of the characters couldn't have been represented for this release somehow, even with a partial fourth sheet for each series set and 'GPK' acronym stickers filling the remaining spots.

Each stick-on products for 'Stick Ons', 'Stick On Name Tags' and 'Stick On Pictures' all came with the same typed-up reverse back that listed the "fun things" to do wtih the puffy stickers, like Trade'em, Give'em, Decorate and Stick'em on things; some are quite interesting to say the least! There is also a 'caution' to keep stickers out of the direct rays of the sun—most likely due to sunbleaching that causes the fading of colors.

Although only the 49b FRAN FRAN character name for the OS2 is usually printed after Topps was sent a cease and desist letter on the nomenclature, even amongst some of the Imperial toy products, the 49b Schizo FRAN name gets a rare printing on one of the OS2 sheets.

STICK-ON NAME TAGS SAMPLE

Imperial released four differnet sticker sheets for the 'Stick-On Name Tags' puffy stickers; four sheets of 41 character names from the OS1 set with 'a' and 'b' names and 37 character names from the OS2 set with 'a' and 'b' names, sequential for the most part. It's too bad all of the OS2 names couldn't have been represented for this release.

Most of the GPK nameplate colors are correct even though the twin nameplate color does not match. The different styles include the traditional GPK yellow nameplate with black ink, the blue nameplates with either white—usually on a darker blue nameplate, or black ink—usually on a light blue nameplate, and the red nameplate with black ink. The new nameplate color not used within the GPK canon is purple with black ink.

SAMPLE SHEETS : SQUARE PICTURE FRAME + STRAIGHT GPK LOGO PUFFY STICKERS

Imperial released twelve differnet sticker sheets for the 'Stick-On Pictures' puffy stickers; six sheets of 36 various OS1 characters, one sheet with one OS1 character and five OS2 characters, and five sheets of 33 various OS3 characters. It's too bad all of the characters couldn't have been represented for this release somehow.

Although only the 49b FRAN FRAN character nomenclature for the OS2 set is usually printed after Topps was sent a cease and disist letter, even amongst some of the Imperial toys, the 49b Schizo FRAN name gets a rare printing on one of the OS2 sheets.

BOP BAG BOX FRONT (LEFT IMAGE) AND THE BOP BAG BOX BACK (RIGHT IMAGE)

The Imperial Toy company 'hit' it big with these four foot inflatable 'Bop Bag' characters. Who didn't like to smack around an inflatable Weeble Wobbles-like punching bag back in the day? It's great seeing two GPK characters from either the OS1 or OS2 GPK sets on each of six different bop bags, for a total of twelve characers. There's a GPK character located on top of the 'Garbage Pail' trash can and another character standing in front of the trash bin. If the character wasn't standing, but sitting, Imperial stuck a trash can lid in there to prop them up a bit, like a GPK highchair.

The characters for the OS1 character Bony JOANIE and Thin LYNN on the Bony JOANIE and PATTY Putty 'Bop Bag' is a very interesting yellow bone color instead of white; the diaper should've been yellow.

Imperial Toy's red-suited ADAM Bomb mascot is used for this particular release.

A red sticker dot—see picture above—was placed on the consumer box and stuck under the 'Bop Bag' that indicated what characters the customer or collector was purchasing; if ADAM Bomb and New Wave DAVE were enclosed, a red sticker was placed next to the character on the front of the box. The red-dot has been found with a thick white line around the outer edge and sometimes placed on the side of the character unstead of underneath.

The ADAM Bomb Bob Bag can be found with a red bottom instead of blue; unknown if red bottoms have been found for the other characters.

PRODUCT NUMBER : NO. 7270 - WITH TACKY TARGETS
COMPLETE SET : 6

TACKY SNAPPER EXAMPLE : RED SUIT ADAM BOMB

The Tacky Snappers were always one of my favorites as a kid, well, any tacky-snapper toy for that matter, that could be purchased from various vending machines. The Imperial Tacky Snapper came in only six different characters, however, the tacky-snapper itself can come in a variety of different colors. The set also comes with twelve different 'Tacky Targets' used for target-practice by snapping and attaching with the sticky snatcher. The tacky-snappers include a sickly sticky pile of vomit, a sticky nuclear mushroom cloud, a sticky forked tongue, a sticky stretched eyeball, a sticky pile of snot and a sticky knotted tongue.

The Tacky Snappers also were packages with Tacky Targets for hours of fun. Eight characters from the OS1 set and four characters from the OS2 set. The images are rough 'die-cuts' of the characters from their stickers, but the nameplates have been covered over with a new black or white nameplate and either white or black type, respectively. These are pretty great, they remind me of those board game pieces you set up using little plastic stands.

The Tacky Snappers use the Imperial ADAM Bomb mascot with the red suit.

Unlike most of Imperial's generic backsides, the Tacky Snappers not only gets a checklist of sorts with a nicely designed image portraying the tacky-snappers, but also a tutorial on use. Bullet point #3 feels like a 'stretch', a what-else-can-you-do-with-these addition.

The character images are rough 'die-cuts' from their original sticker source, except MARTY Mouthful's green background which has been changed to black and ADAM Bomb's blue background stems from the Imperial mascot image.

Not many 'sideways' characters on card get made into products like MARTY Mouthful. Good for you MARTY McFly, now go tacky snap a housefly!

HI-BOUNCE BALL CARD BACK EXAMPLE

The Imperial company, as with the 'Pop-Ups', offered the 'Hi-Bounce Balls' in two different assortments for retailers to purchase and double their sales with customers. A large ball-size of 49mm was offered in 12 different styles with a double-sided picture insert inside showcasing two different GPK characters, one on each side of the 'unbelievably bouncy' ball. A small ball-size of 38mm was offered as well with 24 additional GPK characters, 12 different styles from the large ball-size, and is listed further below within the Imperial Toys checklist. The 'Hi-Bounce Ball' packaging has the RUSSELL Muscle and Brainy JANIE characters showcased on the card front.

The regular, non-Imperial mascot ADAM Bomb character with a blue suit is used for the 'Hi-Bounce Ball' picture insert.

A 'Hi-Bounce Ball' package from Canada is pictured below; the product written in English and in French-Canadian.

Only the blue GPK logo header is used for this release.

Unlike the small 'Hi-Bounce Balls' packaging that has a blank back and the UPC code on the card front, the large 'Hi-Bounce Ball' packaging has a complete colored card back with an image of all of the GPK characters.

HI-BOUNCE BALLS CARD FRONT EXAMPLE

The Imperial company, as with the 'Pop-Ups' offered the 'Hi-Bounce Balls' in two different assortments for retailers to purchase and double their sales with customers. A small ball-size of 38mm was offered in 12 different styles with a double-sided picture insert inside showcasing two different GPK characters, one on each side of the 'unbelievably bouncy' ball. A large ball-size of 49mm was offered as well with 24 additional GPK characters, 12 different styles from the small ball-size, and is listed further below in the Imperial Toys checklist. The 'Hi-Bounce Balls' packaging has the Messy TESSIE and Potty SCOTTY characters showcased on the front card. The product could be ordered by retailers to fit on peg hooks within the aisle of the store or as a counter display container in front of the store.

Unlike the large 'Hi-Bounce Ball' packaging, the small 'Hi-Bounce Balls' packaging contains a blank card back and the UPC is located on the card front.

The name for the OS1 character Wrinkly RANDY is erroneously labeled as 'RANDY Wrinkly' on the picture card, pictured above.

The small ball-sizes have the character names on the picture card, whereas the large ball-sizes do not.

Only the blue GPK logo header is used for this release.

COMPLETE SET : 24

PENCIL BILLBOARD CARD FRONT EXAMPLE + CANADIAN CARD FRONT; IMAGE VIA LUIS THOMPSON

The Imperial company offered retailers two ways to purchase the 'Pencil Billboards'; either in a bucket container, that looked like a see-through trash can for a counter display, or as carded product used on aisle peg hooks. These glorified pencil toppers looked very much like those character stamp pads that were so popular in the 80's. I'm pretty sure the character whipping around as a student took notes did the trick of identifying them as being a bonified GPK collecter. Wave that GPK geek flag, or billboard! There are 24 different GPK characters to collect; because of repeat characters on card, a collector would most likely still have to collect more than 8 'Pencil Billboards' on card to complete an unopened set. The French Canadian packaging contains the description 'DECORATEUR A CRAYONS', along with 'PENCIL BILLBOARDS' whih misleadingly translates to 'pencil decorator' and has nothing to do with crayons.

It's interesting NOT to see an ADAM Bomb character within this release.

There two name errors within the 'Pencil Billboard' release; both OS1 characers Cranky FRANKIE and Sicky VICKY are both labeled with the name 'Cranky FRANKIE',pictured. The names for the OS1 characters RAY Decay and Heavin' STEVEN are labeled incorrectly and have their names swapped.

All nameplates for this release are white with blue type/text.

Only the red GPK logo header is used for this release.

The catalog only shows red mock-up billboards.

PENCIL CASE SAMPLE

Although the 'Pencil Case' school supplies were sold separately by the Imperial Toy company, they can also be located within the 'School Set' release as well with the exact same characters. There are six different pencil cases that could be purchased with four different GPK characters on each case with two found on the 'front' and two found on the 'back', with both sides having copyright information; no real 'front'.

Due to the limit in quantity of ink options to keep costs down, several GPK characters are colored slightly different than their trading card counterparts. Bony JOANIE gets grey bones instead of white bones, Nutty NICOLE's hair should be brown and MICHELLE Muck should be green-ish; but those are the major differences.

The Imperial ADAM Bomb mascot in the red suit is used for this release and the FRAN FRAN character name is used, although the Schizo FRAN nomenclature can surprisingly be found on the 'Stick On' puffy stickers product.

The 'Pencil Case' can be found with either a silver OR white zipper; sometimes the zipper can be located or installed in the reverse direction.

SUNGLASSES SAMPLE

There are twelve distinct GPK character sunglasses that could be collected and fashionably worn by budding collectors and fashionistas; however, they come in a variety of attractive colors, three character-combo styles per color, including: yellow, blue, green and orange. Each pair comes with two different GPK characters for a total of 24 characters if all 12 sunglasses were purchased. Parents could let out a sigh of relief since the sunglasses came 'with saftey tested shatter proof lenses', definitely parent-approved.

This is the ONLY Imperial release that had the original blue-suited ADAM Bomb on the packaging instead of the red-suited Imperial mascot. I enjoy that the packaging makes it look like the ADAM Bomb character is sporting them pushed up on his head.

The nomenclature for the OS1 character Chilly MILLIE is misspelled incorrectly as 'Chilly MILLE' on the 'Sunglasses'.

The copyright line '© 1985 ™ TOPP'S, INC.' can be located in either very small print, possibly a first print run, as seen in the image above, or found with large print, as seen in the image below, possibly a second print run to make the copyright more visible. There also appears to be an unnecessary apostrophe with a possessive 'S' within the copyright line. Image and information supplied by Imperial collector extraordinaire, Luis Thompson.

The hip plastic sunglasses have an interesting arch support for further 'support' that proudly sports the GPK collector's 'team' name; the curved Garbage Pail Kids logo slightly struggles from over-curvature to the point the letters are slighly displaced, especially the last letter 's'.

PRODUCT NUMBER : NO. 7276
COMPLETE SET : 24

ZIPPER PULL SAMPLE

There are a whopping 24 'Zipper Pull' items to collect and to attach to various zippers and to even use as a keychain as advertised; "IT'S A KEY CHAIN TOO!", this may have added to some confusion for collectors since they do look a lot like the 'Keychains' that Imperial also released with the exact same images. The added 'zipper' art on this packaging make it extra special; even the red-suited ADAM Bomb mascot is sitting upon it. There are various characters from the OS1 and OS2 sets to collect for a total of 48 images since the front and back of the 'Zipper Pull' has a different character.

The OS1 GPK headers still contain the trademark™ logo since these images are pulled right from the cards photo stock. There is so much space taken up below the character for the registered® trademark symbol for Garbage Pail Kids and the copyright© trademark symbol for the Topps company on top of Imperial's own symbols and license product information they felt it necessary to lift the nameplate usually found below the character and place it OVER the character for the backside. The frontside has the nameplate under the character with no copyright information.

This is the exact same product for the 'Key Chains', Product No. 7285, but with a clasp instead of a key ring.

The regular blue-suited ADAM Bomb image is used for this release, not the red-suited Imperial mascot.

PRODUCT NUMBER : NO. 7280
COMPLETE SET : 12

BUBBLE FUN SET SAMPLE

Besides their 'Sunglasses' product, another extreme novelty item by Imperial Toy are their bubble sets, in which they are famous for, nothing relieves stress more after a long day of GPK sorting and collecting than a bottle of bubbles. Much of this product was made for quite a few of their own product and other licenses, so it's pretty easy to slap on a new picture and a brand name. There are 12 different characters to collect for the 'Bubble Fun Set' which comes with the bubble dish, an Imperial bubble wand and a small bottle of 'bubble liquid' that is maybe a 'cute' size as opposed to a 'fun' size, but the label does promise 'miracle bubbles', so there's that.

The secondary, smaller character on the bubble dish wand handle, like the 'Fashion Rings' within the 'Jewelry Set', is very random; Stormy HEATHER, SARA Slime, Soft Boiled SAM, Bye Bye BOBBY, et cetera; there is no pairing, per se.

The bubble trays, much-like the plastic 'Sunglasses' come in a variety of different colors, increasing the potential for collecting, exponentially.

SCHOOL SET SAMPLE

Although the 'Pencil Case' school supplies were sold separately by the Imperial Toy company, item no. 7274, they can also be located within the 'School Set' release as well, with the exact same characters; it is surprising they are not placed together within the line up. There are six different pencil cases that could be purchased with four different GPK characters on each case with two found on the 'front' and two found on the 'back' with both sides having copyright information; no true front o back. The 'School Set' also contains a ruller, a protractor, a pencil sharpener, an eraser and the pencil case. These were sold right in time leading up to the back-to-school rush in the Fall of 1986.

Due to the limit in quantity of ink options to keep costs down, several GPK characters are colored slightly different than their trading card counterparts. Bony JOANIE gets grey bones instead of white bones, Nutty NICOLE's hair should be brown and MICHELLE Muck should be green; but those are the major differences.

The 'Pencil Case' can be found with a silver OR white zipper; sometimes the zipper can be located or installed in the reverse direction.

PRODUCT NUMBER : NO. 7282
COMPLETE SET : 0

Imperial product numbers 7263 through 7285 are all accounted for, numerically speaking, except for number 7282, but it was most likely a CANCELLED product. Per catalog sell sheet, all 23 items are accounted for, this would've been the 24th product. Item number 7283 is assigned to the 'Fashion Rings' and item number 7284 is assigned to the 'Jewelry Set(s)', with two 'Fashion Rings' & a pendant Necklace, so item number 7282 may have been a CANCELLED product intended for solo necklaces; but this is pure speculation, of course. Early product testing for females may have been down.

FASHION RINGS DISPLAY BOX

To cater to the female GPK fanbase, or to fanboys who happened to flash some 'bling', the Imperial Toy company released 'Fashion Rings' and potentially added more clientele to their cash-base. Even though the 'party' favor jewelry was not high-fashion it did add character to one's naked hand, or, a GPK character to be precise. A collector could spend hours picking out a ring of their liking (but not at Jared's) from 24 different GPK characters; as with these later Imperial Toy releases, the OS1 characters were focused on more than the OS2 characters. This is one of two Imperial Toy items for GPK not found on card or peg hook purposes but sold in a bucket container or a display box only.

23 OUT OF 24 FASHION RINGS : 'HOT SCOTT / LUKE WARM' NOT PICTURED

This Imperial Toy release finds ADAM Bomb back in his nostalgic blue suit.

The nomenclature for GPK character Brett SWEAT is labelled incorrectly as 'Sweat BRETT', pictured above.

The ring picture design is the same set-up as the images used for the back of the 'Hi-Bounce Ball' (large size) packaging and the picture inserts along with the same image design used in the small handle of the 'Bubble Fun Set'.

Only the blue GPK logo header is used for this release.

JEWELRY SET SAMPLES

To further cater to the female GPK fanbase, or to fanboys who happened to flash some 'bling', the Imperial Toy company released the 'Jewelry Set' with the previously mentioned 'Fashion Rings' that included one oval-shaped pendant on a cheap necklace chain and two aforementioned rings. Even though the 'party' favor jewelry was not high fashion it did add character to one's naked neck or naked hand, a GPK character to be precise. A collector could spend hours picking out a necklace and rings of their liking (but not from Jared's) from 24 different GPK characters; as with these later Imperial Toy releases, the OS1 characters were focused on more than the OS2 characters. Since the necklace pendant is the focal point of the 'Jewelry Set', I have a hunch there are 24 different necklaces to collect and the rings are completely at random.

The nomenclature for GPK character Brett SWEAT is labelled incorrectly as 'Sweat BRETT' on the ring.

The necklace and ring picture design is the same set-up as the images used for the back of the 'Hi-Bounce Ball' (large size) packaging and picture insert along with the same image design used in the small handle of the 'Bubble Fun Set'.

Only the blue GPK logo header is used for this release.

KEY CHAIN SAMPLES : SOME IN ORIGINAL BAGS

There are a whopping 24 'Key Chains' to collect and to attach your house-key to, so make sure your parents make a ton of copies. This is one of the only other Imperial Toy items that is not found on a blue card, but sold in a container as a 'loose' product only. There are various characters from the OS1 and OS2 sets to collect for a total of 48 images since the front and back of the 'Key Chains' have a different character.

2. This is the exact same product as the 'Zipper Pulls', Product No. 7276, but with a key ring instead of a clasp apparatus.

3. The regular blue-suited ADAM Bomb image is used for this release, not the red-suited Imperial mascot.
