Several GPK artists worked on the Sketch cards for this release, standard sketch cards: Tom Bunk, Fred Harper, Joe Simko, Neil Camera, Layron DeJarnette, Mark Pingitore, Jeff Zapata, John Cebollero, Strephon Taylor, Steve Potter and Colin Walton; the die-cut sketch cards include the 10 artists above minus Tom Bunk.

1
. The Card Numbering starts back At #1 for the new GPK iteration; as well as the bonus cards. The packs remain at 10 cards per pack (previously known as 'Mega' packs), at a higher SRP; whereas BNS1 had 8 cards per pack. The exception are the Hobby Collector Edition packs which contain 6 cards per pack due to the exclusive premium content.

2
. The 2014 Series 1 series is the eighth GPK set to contain Sketch Cards and Die-Cut Sketch cards numbering 1/1 (one-of-a-kind). Die-Cut Sketch cards can be found within hobby boxes (inserted 1:249 packs) or within hobby collector edition boxes (inserted 1:141), and regular Sketch cards found within retail boxes (inserted 1:251 packs). Several GPK artists worked on the Sketch cards for this release; Tom Bunk, Brent Engstrom, Fred Harper, Joe Simko, Neil Camera, among other artists. Besides the sketch cards located within the boxes, the artists were given ten blank sketch card 'returns' from the Topps company, and once approved, could be kept, sold or auctioned -- these sketch cards are often more highly detailed and go for a higher price.

3. The Textured Relic cards, Cloth cards, Full-Blood Canvas cards, Sepia cards, Red Parallel cards, Olym-picks Medal cards, Blank Back cards and Make Up Your Own Name cards are all new types of insert Chase Cards for the 2014 Series 1 set. The Parallels stickers, Bonus cards, Printing Plates, Motion cards, C-Name cards, Die-Cut Sketch cards (different style), Sketch cards and Artist Autograph cards are all returning chase cards for the series.

4. The ninth series to have a series Checklist titled and outlined with the blue Color, after the ANS6, ANS7, Flashback sets, and BNS1 - BNS3 sets (not including the BNS Mini set). The recent base sets are so large they need two checlists, 'Checklist A' and 'Checklist B'. This is the second GPK set checklist to detail artist and writer inclusion for the Topps set; this hasn't been seen since the Trash Can Trolls in 1991 (and Wacky Packages this year). The set contains NO Insert Checklist for the chase cards.

5. The base card set contains NO GPK name written in White, only Black Lettering ... this does not uphold with the Bonus cards however, where White lettering can be located alongside Black lettering names. This occured for both the ANS and Flashback sets that contained blue nameplates with black lettering.
This lettering phenomenon was once again brought to my attention by Keith Webb for BNS1-- who contributed several concept pieces to the ANS3 GPK set in 2004.

6. The set contains two instances of the GPK Header being used as part of the humor for the gag; as the greyed-out, no color GPK header of cards 18a Dull DOROTHY and 18b Colorless COLLEEN, and as the scissored-up GPK header of bonus cards B8a Scissor HANS and B8b Cut UPTON. These are infrequent occurances.

7. The forever famous ADAM Bomb Topps GPK Mascot character finds himself yet again on the packaging for the new series. ADAM Bomb, once again, can be found throughout the chase card insert sets. The character can also be found in Topps' 75th Anniversary release for card #86 as himself, certifying that he is the most recognized character in the GPK canon.

8. The fourth 'New' series to have "a" and "b" Bonus Card Twins and Hobby box exclusives: various chase cards and eight bonus cards (four images).

9. One of the Rare subsets for the 2014 Series 1 set are the 11 infamous C-Name Cards that make up the OS "b" name for GPK characters that were produced as "short prints" (often found in Topps' sports card releases and some entertainment products); the "b" names for this release are brand new. These inserts are usually unannounced, no odds are given (no pack ratio), do not have a published quantity, and meant as a surprise for collectors to find. However, for this release, a pack ratio is given for the C-name cards. There are no Parallels of the C-name cards, and can be located within all packaging types
.

10. Several OS and New GPK names can be located on Bonus cards B7a BROCK Poster (rock poster) and B7b Taped TAD; ROCKY N. Roll, Tom TOM, D. JAY, Hippy (Hippie) Skippy, Punk ROCKY, New Wave DAVE and Jolted JOEL.

11. The second GPK release to have NO Puzzle Preview cards. The newer puzzle border color, gray, can be found again for this release; which goes well with the 'colorless' theme of cards 18a Dull DOROTHY and 18b Colorless COLLEEN (seen further above); another new border being black. Topps decided against 'puzzle preview' cards (as changed with Topps' Wacky Packages franchise) due to the size of the set; there's a larger chance of receiving one of the two twin base card singles that show the completed image, rather than just one preview card on the backside of a card.

12. The Same First Name occurs only once for this release due to the reoccuring Adam bomb themed cards -- 66a ADAM Bomb and B3a ADAM Boom. The set also has a few name derivatives, such as the following cards -- 24a BENNY Bag and 26b Ben stalk and cards 28a Pained PETE and B2a PETEY Da Fool.

13. In May of 2014 Topps offered the Japanese version of Bukimi Kun 2014 Series 1 from their online store (SRP $50.00) to collectors. A nostalgic tribute set for international collectors using the popular Bukimi Kun title. The holy grail of international Garbage Gang releases, Topps has created a new Japan release (as an online exclusive) with the GPK header and names written in Japanese kana. The series is a direct replication of the images for the 2014 Series 1 U.S. release (from the same year) and the layout for the late 1980's Bukimi Kun Japan release, using large number font, the removal of the PEEL HERE arrow and the iconic green header - which is no longer curved and previously covered up the GPK header of yesteryears.

14. The set contains two cards with the Same Name as previous GPK characters; card 29a Condo MINNIE has the same name as OS5 card 576a Condo MINNIE, and card 50a Taste BUD has the same name as OS11 card 430a Taste BUD.

15. GPK Valentines Cards were released by the Topps Compnany in February of 2014, a Topps Online Store release only, right after the New Year and last years holiday Greeting Cards release in November of 2013. Two box versions are available, an "A" and "B" box with 10 greeting cards per box; 5 different images with 2 different names for each box -- for $19.99 each. The front side is the final artwork image, the backside includes a card image and name; "First Printing" is located on the back of the card -- for a total of 10 different images and 20 backside characters if both boxes were purchased.
Box "B" contains an Exclusive Image for the GPK Valentine's Cards release; Stinky STACY and Reeking ROSE (painting: Joe Simko; gag: Colin Walton).

16. The card backs once again include OS1-like GPK Comics, called 'Garbage Pail Comics' originated in BNS2, and like 'The Garbage Gang' title of yesteryears, contains the TM (trademark) symbol.

17. The twenty-second series to contain cards with The GPK Acronym found within the artwork. The GPK acronym found on the hockey jersey of cards 58a BUCK Puck, 58b IKE Hockey and 58c LOWELL Goal, and on the snowboard of cards 59a Hurt CURT, 59b Bailed BART and 59c PAT Splat.

18.
Various GPK Ads (cover photo) found On Facebook for the various releases during the 2014S1 set:

19. The following eight GPK artists signed Artist Autograph Cards for the new set: Tom Bunk, Brent Engstrom, Dave Gross, Joe Simko, Layron DeJarnette, Mark PIngitore and JungWa Im.

20. Artist JungWa Im completed the GPK Border Artwork for the backs of the GPK Olym-picks cards.

1. Artist Tom Bunk (the only Veteran GPK Artist) completed one card front for the new set; but also worked on the Sketch cards for this release (including using color for this edition). Bunk's Sketch card samples can be seen on the Sketch card page above.

2. Next-gen GPK Artist Layron DeJarnette shows up for this release completing one final artwork for the 'Olympics' subset card (within the base card set) and participating in sketch cards.

3
. Sadly, next-generation Artist Fred Harper Is Back for Sketch cards, which look great, but wasn't able to contribute to the base card artwork; his work would seriously make the GPK sets of late stronger in appearance. Harper has only contributed to one GPK release, for ANS7; he nailed it on his first attempt with quality (art)work.

4. Wacky Package Artist David Gross found time in his busy WP schedule to complete two paintings for the 'Olympics' subset cards.

5. Next-gen GPK Artist Mark Pingitore is back for a fare share concepts and final artwork for the base card set, the 'Olympics' subset within the base card set and for a half of the bonus cards for this release. Below is a 'See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil' concept that was rejected due to another, 'similar' concept that made the set instead; this feels stronger and more polished of the two. Also pictured are alternate color versions of the color roughs for cards 47 and 49 in the set.

6. The largest contributor to the 2014 Series 1 set is GPK Artist Brent Engstrom who submitted more than 20 paintings for the recent set. As seen below, Brent starts with a digital 'pencil rough' with color. It is then placed within a GPK template as a 'color rough' which displays the GPK header, name bar, 'Peel Here' arrow and die-cut outline; thus giving a size comparison. Finally, the final artwork is manually produced and turned into Topps. The knight had purple tights for the rough draft, and they was changed to green tights for the final piece.

7. The other main contributor besides Engstrom and Pingitore is GPK artist Joe Simko, Of Wax Eye (that released the satirical parody sets Cereal Killers and Stupid Heroes) who completed several base card, bonus card and 'Olympics' subset card final artwork for the series.

8. Concept Artist Steve Potter contributed a handful of great character ides for this GPK release and also participated in the sketch card phenomenon. The following, pictured pieces were rejected; the middle piece is a subject matter that remains unpublished and is a rich concept for parody. The pieces were rejected due to similar concepts published elsewhere; Engstrom's Polaroid Kid released for the 2014S2 set, and the pinwheel girl being very close to the rotating Kid that Engstrom also submitted for the following set, but are both different enough hopefully they will see a future, final artwork release.

9. The artwork and writing for all of The Comic Backs was completed by Pat Barrett, except for Nasty NICK/Dead TED and Hippie SKIPPY/GRANT Wishes which were written with Colin Walton, and The Mystery Fink was written by Colin Walton. Colin Walton completed all of the Olym-picks card backs and medal backs.
It is interesting to note the non-registered 'TM' symbol, no registered trademark symbol ®, on the header next to the 'Garbage Pail Comics' logo.
