i watch 5 bands performed at baybeats yesterday.

i m not into bands & local music, mostly listen to what s on the charts. also, i tend to ve a prejudiced idea of 'angry at everything for nothing' ppl, playing noisy music. but yesterday i was in the mood to see something new, & i was alone with nothing else i rather do.

i didnt catch the name of 2 of the bands i watched. the other 3 are absinth, electric co. & astreal. well, not all are angry & noisy music, even the noisy ones turned out to be enjoyable. esp the electric co. ppl, u can tell they r really passionate abt what they do watching them performed.

astreal is the only one i know of prior to this, only coz i frequent ginette 's blog. although their music isnt what i would listen on every normal day, from my limited taste in music i still feel it is pretty good for that genre. & to see ginette 'handling' her guitar, despite looking kinda big for her small frame & all, can only say she s very cool.

rui'en

i happened to saw rui'en on an outdoor performance at orchard. i used to find her appealing when she played a small role in a certain tv serials. but after she has become a singer, i thought her face seemed bloated everytime i saw her on tv. & i personally feel maybe she or her music co. overdid her 'very got character' kinda image. well, she certainly got back in shape today i saw her in person. she sounded so much better in the song she sang live, than in the album.

SARS Free!!!

i went back TP to catch up with lecturers sometime ago. coz it s 1st orientation day, 'security' has been really tight against SARS. getting in can be quite a hassle now. when i left, i saw the board hanging on the pillar at the entrance to the overhead bridge, for ppl to stick their SARS free stickers. i m trying to remember which one belongs to me now. it has to be 1 of the 2 light orange ones at the bottom right ...

i tried out the QuikPrints Terminal at suntec (fountain terrace, basement 1) to print out 4 photos from my digicam today. i m pretty pleased with the quality of the 4Rs, just as good as those by
normal developing.

Standard Photo brought in this first self-service digital photo kiosk in singapore. they are also smart enough to place an assistant beside the kiosk. although the interface is easy enough for me, embarassingly i face a little problem with the coin & compact flash insertion. also, the insertion of dollar notes arent working properly & she has to change coins for me.

some info abt QuikPrints:

media accepted: compact flash, smartmedia, multimedia card, cd-rom, floppies & memory stick.

output options: 4R, wallet size, ID format, index print & optional cd burning

adjustment functions: crop, zoom & rotate, as well as brightness

time: 2 minutes for 1st print & 12 sec for subsequent prints

cost: 50 cents per print (minimum of 4 prints to use)

Fullerton Hotel

i ve not been a lazy boy & brought along my tripod. this s taken with shutter speed set to 1 second.

*the ghostly legs crossing the road belongs to human. interesting to note that in 1 sec, this person took 3 steps, exactly the 8 frames per step in animation walk cycle. now i ve proof of what i ve always been doing based on what ppl told me.

it s sad to hear the failure of the operation to separate the Iran sisters. it also makes me feel very small, witnessing their cheerfulness in face of their unfortunate fate & courage risking their life to pursue their dreams.

i went down to Marina South & shoot some reference movies of people flying kite there, for my animation. upon seeing real kites flying in the air, i realised all the time i ve sat infront of the com & got the kite flying animation pretty wrong.

kite flying seems really fun. even small kids can do it. zuwee told me in pasi gudang in JB, kite flying is much easier & all u need to do is hold the kite up & the wind will do the job to carry it up. in singapore it s much tougher.

here is 1 of the reference movie i took of kites flying in the air. i also took some of ppl handling the kite in the wind. but dun think it would be interesting other than to me for reference purposes.
