So you aperently liked Gummo, or what else would you be doing here. Guess what? So did I, I think, it is the most important movie of the 90's. Where someone would just have dialogue about something in such squalor, Harmony, in a realistic way, shows it. The Violence , and the horror, in all it's horrid detail. He uses such detail, for all of the scenes. The scene in the bathroom, with Soloman. There is a peice of bacon , taped to the wall.
He uses a shaky camera for a lot of the scenes, to create the look of a home camera. The scenes with that camera, are usually narrated by the character it focuses on. These characters can be an abused child, a cocain addict sleaze bag, and many other characters.
The characters in the movie are lacking general intelligence, and morals. Korine shows us the ugliness with a breath taking aray of stellar characters. Characters will brag about sleeping with their sister, or make grotesque poems while arm-wrestling. Korine even stops by to make a cameo appearence as a drunken teen, who rambles on. It is intresting in the sence, that he is trying to say, everyone wants to be loved. He never was loved by his parents, and he will take it anyway he can get it.
All the scenes are ingenious, but my personal favorite, has always been, the great lifting weights scenes. The music just adds to it. Madonna's like a prayer ( the only time I will ever recomend it). Pure greatness. The scenes are intense, shocking, disturbing, and gross. Korine makes no apologies, nor will he ever.
