He became a medic and at some point was captured along with a black man. He and his companion later escaped their captors while the captors slept. He survived the war and after the war, Alfred D. Breaux opened a store in Duson, Louisiana and practiced medicine. He was married [wife's name is unstated] and this marriage produced some 11 children. Alfred lived a full life until his death in 1934. His final resting place is in Lafayette, Louisiana. An interesting family story regarding Alfred is that he was on his way home from a veterans reunion and he became ill on the train. The conductor stopped the train as close as they could to his store and the conductor walked him home holding up the train the whole time. Note: Records indicate that a Pension Application for Benefits for CSA Soldiers from Louisiana exist at the Archives in Baton Rouge.
