An hour and 20 minutes west of Ottawa, on a small body of water called Widow Lake in Lanark  County, Ontario, sits Janetta's cottage.  A tiny slice of paradise... and one that is sorely missed.

As I'm many miles from home, I would like others to share this special place in my absence.  This tranquil lakeside retreat is available for rent to any responsible, nature-loving person(s).

icecottg.jpg (46767 bytes)cottsign.jpg (51637 bytes) The cozy cottage sleeps 4 (double-bed in upper loft and pull-out couch in living room below), has electric fridge/stove, (but sorry, no shower, only outdoor plumbing!), airtight wood-stove for heating (complete with firewood) and wonderful swimming, skating or skiing off the dock, depending on the season.  There's a canoe, hammock, BBQ and just about anything else you might need for some well-deserved R & R.

Send me an email if you're interested... jayroach_2000@yahoo.com.

Californians surf. Canadians canoe.

Below are some photos from many fond memories at the lake. Again, we have created thumbnails of the photos, so just click each thumbnail to see the full-size picture.

I am fortunate to have my cottage located across the road from my parents' getaway, "Birchmount", a picturesque 200-acre parcel of land, complete with restored horse barn, which functions as their 4-season cabin.  Just behind the cabin is a beautiful maple-sugar bush which my parents tap each year to make delicious maple syrup!  We have many family gatherings here and despite the lack of electricity or running water, Mom cooks up scrumptous meals on the wood stove that can't be beat.  It's a place where one can enjoy the beauty of nature without any modern-day distractions.
