I always thought things like these were hoaxes. Then I received a letter from the company asking us to visit this web site and click on donate food because they are a sponsor. Large companies tend not to get sucked into hoaxes so I thought I would add a link to my home page so that others might also donate.

This is the world's first "click-to-donate" site where 88 million visitors have donated more than 10,000 metric tons of free food to help feed the hungry. Second Harvest is the United States' largest domestic hunger relief organization, distributing food to 26 million hungry Americans each year, nearly a third of whom are children.

Q. What is The Hunger Site?
A. The Hunger Site is the world's first "click-to-donate" site.
It gives Internet users the ability to quickly make a difference in the fight to
end hunger. Daily, in less than 5 seconds, a visitor can click on the
"donate free food" button and send food to the hungry in countries
like Bosnia, Lebanon, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Honduras, Mozambique, Eritrea and
the United States - anywhere there's a need. To date, more than 101 million
visitors have donated more than 11,000 metric tons of food (almost 200 million
cups of food). The donations of staple food are paid for by The Hunger Site
sponsors and distributed by America's Second Harvest and Mercy Corps. Its
grassroots popularity has been recognized with prestigious Web awards in the
activism category -- the 2000 Cool Site of the Year Award and the People's Voice
winner at the 2000 Webby Awards.
Q. Why was the site founded? Who came up with the idea?
A. A private citizen in Indiana founded the site in June of 1999. His
goal was to use the powerful reach of the Internet to do something good for the
world. By its fourth month, it was already receiving more than 1 million
visitors per month. This phenomenal success quickly became too much for him to
manage. He approached GreaterGood.com, an early and consistent sponsor, to take
the site over. In February 2000, GreaterGood.com assumed ownership of The Hunger
Site.

Does the donation cost me anything?
A. When you click on the "Donate Free Food" button, our
computer server registers your daily donation. The computer adds your donation
to the day's totals and sends you to the Thank You page where the names of the
sponsors who have paid for your donation are displayed. There is absolutely no
charge to you for the donation; it is fully paid for by the sponsors.
